I'd buy and build them without hesitation, but they're the wrong scale. Metal kits are IMHO easier to build than plastic or resin anyway. Just a bit different technique.

I used to own a 1/16 F2 500, but gave it away as a gift. I'm VERY strict about scale. Part of the collection is the fun in comparing the cars directly to each other.

I agree... I've found myself becoming very selective about the models I'm purchasing lately. I used to collect any and every 1/18 sportscar I could get my hands on for a decent price. After a while, I realized I was not only spending a ridiculous amount of money on what were essentially crappy models (Maisto, Mattel non-Fcars), I decided I would limit myself (for now) to only acquiring 1/18 Ferraris.

I bought my first Exoto last year, and it's been all downhill from there! 5 Exotos and 3-4 Mattel Schumacher F1s later, I see my collection now becoming even more focused on just Ferrari *race* cars, although I'll never pass up a 1/18 (road) Fcar I don't have. In terms of seeking models out, though, it's all about the F1s now.

    Insanity, I tell you.

Insanity it sure is. Welcome to the asylum!

Maybe we should start a separate 1/18 F1 thread? I was lucky to have gotten the Ferrari bug by the time the first 1/18 cars came out and so I happened to buy a Larini F1 from 1993 and all the F1 Ferraris that followed ever since.

Wow...great pictures, Edwin! Many thanks... Now - considering how many 1:18 Corvette Grand Sport (coupe & roadster) models Exoto has made, you'd *think* they'd see the potential goldmine in producing this run of cars. Another worthwhile undertaking for them would be the 333SP. Of course, it would probably be 2042 before the final one was released...

You realize that HW made the 333SP. Nothing great, but it exists, even with a removable engine cover.

Yeah, I've got it. Well, there are two to be precise - a "raced" version in MOMO livery, and the "bare" version (red, black spoiler, white wheels). I've got the raced version, as the other does absolutely nothing for me.

The SP is probably my favorite Ferrari race car, but the HW version just doesn't even come close to what could be done by a company like Exoto, CMC, or even Minichamps. Some of the 1/43s I've seen (someone here posted a picture of their collection of 1/43 SPs - I think he had all of them) are downright AWESOME when it comes to detail, so if they can do it in 1/43, it can be done in 1/18.

Good news - talked to Kevin at Scale18.com: he has been told he will be getting the new CMC 250 SWB models next week. He has ordered about 72 and pre-sold over 40, so I purchased one and a Kyosho 365 Boxer to be mailed next week! Price there is $194. I have always found him very good to deal with and has some detail prototype photos:

He says this model is red-hot nation wide and once actually in the stores, will go quickly.

I have seen one already here in the UK. A German seller had one at the Classic Car Show last weekend. It looked good and the exhausts were fine, unlike in the pictures at the beginning of this thread. The seller was busy, though, so I didn't check the price.

the prototypes i have seen were a little disappointing in the interior, especially compared to the comparable CMC Mercedes - I hope this got straightened out in production.

    anyone seen a production interior?

You can't really compare 61 Ferrari to 2004 MB interiors, unless you are talking about the quality of the craftsmanship.

Yes; I was speaking of the quality of the CMC model interiors, as that is what this thread and most of this section is about. The CMC 250 interior looked like shiny plastic in photos while the production CMC Mercedes models are very well done.

It's everything I hoped for, a magnificent miniature in every respect. Like many of you I've been waiting over a year for this model of a car I will always consider the quintessential Ferrari and it was well worth the wait.

It's far better in the metal than photographs in which the shape seems a little off and the texture of the seats too shiny.

Forget it. The shape is dead on perfect and the Rosso Red paint is perfect. The seats and poor panels are beautifully textured and perfect in hue. The chrome is magnicent. Details abound including ultra-fine "Pininfarina" script on the side flashes, shift linkages, fuel and brake lines in the undercarriage with brackets. The underhood detailing is thoroughly complete and realistic and the Borranis are the best I've seen in miniature.

Tire markings, so often left out of 1/18ths in this price range are complete down to "Made in France" lettering on the Michelin XWX tires.

This car ties with the Exoto Porsche 917/30 as the best in my modest collection. It has to be the best 1/18 scale Ferrari available.

    Criticisms:

-No License plates, these are easy enough to add.
-Trunk and door shutlines are so tight they're a bit difficult to open.

Bravo CMC, how 'bout a California Spider or a Competizione SWB w Stirling Moss' Goodwood '61 markings on it?

PS: The box is marked "250GT SWB Berlinetta Passo Corto" . Anyone know what Passo Corto means?

Seriously - you're killing me, Andy! I am crawling out of my skin to have this model, now!!! I'm glad to hear that someone in the U.S. physically has one, though - that means it won't be long...

BTW - anybody know the production numbers on this model? I can't imagine it's very many...
