I would like to change the two air fans of my 308 GT4 because they make some noise while running. Any idea where to find this kind of things... Best regards Olivier
I've had the same problem on my '76 308. I took the fans apart, checked the bearings, oiled the bearings, adjusted the bearings and reinstalled the fans. On the rear of each fan (toward the front of the car) is a screw with a nut retainer around it that allows you to adjust the pressure on the bearings and when they are just right, tighten the nut down. All this while still on the car. On the other hand, once the front grill is removed, the fans are easily removed from the car. I overhauled (cleaned up is all I did) the fans on the workbench and also tested them on the bench before I reinstalled them. Make sure they are tied down or in a vice before applying 12 volts, they will fly. Also make sure when they are reinstalled you can feel them blowing through the radiator and not through the front grill. For what its worth, that was two years ago and they've been fine up until yesterday. One started making a noise so I disconnected it. Probably work on it this weekend. I think they are made by Lucas and are standard equipment on '60s and '70s Jaguars.
The original fans are push through... If you don't mind sacrificing originality, get some el-cheapo AutoZone pull through fans. They are more efficient and cheaper by a factor of 10. If you crave originality, then open your wallet and call a dealer or F of UK.
Over the past two years it has been amazing to watch Robert turn into the GT/4 originality purist nazi....
can you imagine if I had enough money to do any real damage??? hey, im runing 16" wheels and a momo racing wheel!! but yes the longer I look at a Ferrari the more it looks better stock, well except for the thermal reactor and politically correct bumpers!!! Rob
