wow, big price. I wonder why they bought it when there would be 271 other owners that would have taken less...

BUT, bottom line. It's worth what it sold for... and the guys are driving it.. everyone wins.

I'm sorry if I offend any purists, but from a mug punter's point of view, the F40 kills the 288 for kerbside presence, having seen them both yesterday.

For a million bucks, it would want to be incredible to drive - but I bet it isn't, so why?

that's high for a 288... and if you look under the car you'll see the speedo sensor plug.... mileage on 288 is NEVER to be believed.

mark, same could be said for the murcie and the gallardo, and why is the gallardo about 200k less than the murcie,

from the info i have received, they reckon the F40 is a race car, the 288 is an earlier version of a race car -it comes down to personal preference. i like both, in fact one of each would be nice, but then after sitting in the back of the 612 last night ar the dinner, and having a 6'4"bloke in the drivers seat it convinced me - bugger the db9 the 612 is the ultimate car, and from what the GM from Ateko was telling me that for every 612 sold the dealer gets a further allocation of 2 X430's which kinda puts pressure on selling one, the list as told was 542,000 including the 9% gross the dealer has in the car,

so the games have begun and i get to drive one on Monday and lets see what they come up with.

I'm with you on this one. The 612 (or pretty much any Ferrari) beats the Aston for integrity. They say the 612 isn't a looker but I like it.

Hey Goober, have you got your M3 serviced yet? What type of service does it need?

I would have loved to be able to go on the rally this year, considering the featured marque. Seeing or even experiencing the 288GTO, F40 and F50 speeding along winding countries roads would be incredible, especially considering they're not cars you get to see in Australia very often...

I'll be heading down to Gouger St. tomorrow for the Street Party at around 3:30. Any of you guys planning on meeting up for dinner?

its in the werkshop with Rayner now and me thinks they are sh!tting themselves, it has an aweful grind in second gear that has shuddering the rear end to bits, Johnny C tried telling me tonight it is the diff oil (WTF) and it needs to come from Melb, so in a nice way i said fix it please cos i dont wanna upset VPK's morning tea!!!!!!!!!!!!!

at first we thought it was a drive shaft or bent rim but it all marries up ok and look it grinds, someone took it home last night and they found it did the same thing.

either they're just biased and protecting their investment or they've never been in or driven an F40. i don't understand why people keep saying this. the F40 is as road car as any 328.

Actually, adjustable suspension F40's need a speedo impulse to control ride height, but yes, condition and history is all that matters, not mileage.

And speaking of condition, I bought a Borescope today.. so I can see into any dark unreachable orifices... yes, ANY!! (The probe is long enough and flexible enough to look anywhere)

I had a look at a 550 piston, liner, combustion chamber, inlet and exhaust valve port, and then Carl wanted a go in private and I had to leave.....

In fact the 288GTO has more of a right to be called a 'race' car as it was a Group B homologation special. F40 was a road car released to celebrate 40 years of Ferrari as a car manufacturer. It was never released to race or homologate a race car. That said, the F40 racers did follow at a later time.

Given the esteem you seem to hold it in, I'm guessing you'd argue it's worthy to wear the badge? Thinking about it, it was quite bold of them (IMO) to release another GTO, as the original was a pretty hard act to follow.

The 288 was the very FIRST instance of Ferrari referring to a previous model in the GTO. Now the majority of current models are trying to claw some credibility from Ferraris heritage.

For eg, Ferrari Mondial, Testarossa, and in the future, possibly the new 'Dino'.

I'd heard that the F430 was going to resurrect the 'Monza' monicker, but it didn't happen.

Is anyone here besides Goober going on the rally?

I was supposed to be a passenger in a 612 Scag from Asia, but unfortunately they weren't able to get insurance for it, so I'm without a seat. :(

Sorry, but I just can't see what all the fuss is about, for the 288 GTO. It looks like a 308 hotted up and it's much slower than an F40. I don't know..............it just does nothing for me. Why do people get excited over the 288 GTO?. To me, it's the evolution car that was built, to finally get to the real thing.................the F40. I know people love the 288. I know Doug W. would rather have a 288 than an F40........................................and all I can say is ........."what the............."

I would agree on the preferance for the F40, but the 288 GTO words just echo ferrari history, i went to the parade grounds and walked about, you could be mistaken the 288 was a 308... not that id be mistaken but i mean no one really seemed to care, most people were more interested in the f40. suppose its a looks thing and a lack of fine ferrari education.

Price wise its a collectable so i dont think we can dispute value, i mean the most expensive painting ever sold was bought for 104 million!!!! now thats insane.

But relativity still prevails where i would prefer 2 x F40's for the GTO tag.

this one came up in a quick search 525k
