Different day and different tires, however. Nevertheless, I'm willing to bet that the 430, on the same Corsas that were on the CS, will outperform the CS on the track. In fact, I will guarantee it.
No doubt about it, Jack, I completely agree. It's been well documented that R compound tires are worth 2- 3 sec/lap. Gary
Part of the reason may be how "green" the later C&D test car was. The cars tested in Italy were well run-in, and the later car was not. I am amazed at the huge difference in how strong my car runs with 1000 mi on it vs how it was at 500 mi...the biggest difference by far of any car I have owned. At 500 mi it felt like a strong 360, at 1000 mi it is in another league entirely. Gary
Anyone check out the video on racingflix.com - 430 vs. GT-3 clubsport? It is in Japanese, but another comparison of P vs. F.
Dingo posted the show before I thought. The GT3 CS was modified, someone said 450bhp and much much lighter. Very good race.
Great post Jack. I was wondering what happend after your last offer of a real world test in the "430 vs Z06" thread. Too bad you couldn't get the Z owner to come and play. Maybe the next time. As for the performance of the 430,.....not bad....not bad at all. This makes it even more interesting as to how it will do against the Z, assuming you can get a Z to run with you guys the next time.
Roger, Thanks -- I always appreciate validation -- you are the (giddy up) MAN! Your car does look rather low. Did you take before and after measurements -- do you know how much you lowered that beauty? TIA.
gday jack i'll ask the workshop next week and advise . it's not 100% practical but i haven't done any damage underneath yet . no problems on the track as well . Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks, Roger -- I'd appreciate any info you can share. I'm especially interested in how difficult (or easy) it was for your shop to install the four point harnesses. Feel free to PM me, if that's more convenient for you. All the best.
[This a repeat of my response for the benefit of our F-chat brethren.] Hi Bill, I appreciate the trust and feel the love, but I have no idea what the 430 will do vis a vis the other cars. The GT2 was using a 100 octane racing gas blend and the ECU was trained to be a good (fast) boy. As I said, we were a bit surprised by the fact that the 430 and GT2 were neck and neck given how fast this particular GT2 feels and actually IS. However, we did repeat the run several times, FWIW. I doubt we will be doing any 0-Whatever speed tests, since neither of us will be dumping/abusing our clutch to achieve a 'quality' standing start. We will most likely do the CGT, CS, Andial 3.8 and 430 high speed rolling tests, since those cars are readily available in our collective stables. As for the Z, we've got to find someone willing to supply the car. We are in the process of attempting to rent a local airport runway. As for the 430 and CS on the acceleration front, I can guarantee that the 430 is significantly faster, but we will still have fun doing our stupid test. I did find this post/comments by Allanlambo about the 430's acceleration prowess somewhat interesting, especially given his self-confessed disdain for all things Ferrari. QUOTE : "Esprit vs 430 F1 Last night i had a chance to do some racing against my buddies 430. Keep in mind 20 minutes earlier on the highway i raced a previous model Z06 and from a roll of approx 60mph to about 130mph i pulled 3-4 cars on him in the Esprit. A couple weeks ago in Malibu I raced a 996TT that had some mods (atleast exhaust) and beat that pretty well also. In Az I raced my buddies E-Gear Gallardo and from a 30mph roll to about 130mph, his front bumper ended up being at my door. Now we all know how I feel about Ferraris, but in virtually the same race as in the Gallardo his 430 killed me. 30mph roll on, to 130mph, and the 430 walked me by id say 4 maybe 5 cars. I was shocked, car hauls ass!" UNQUOTE You can find the entire thread HERE
jack i'll take some pics of the harness next week and get some info from my panel beater . the car is at the mechanics as it thinks the drivers side door is open and the window stays down a fraction while driving and when stationary without your foot on the brake pedal it kicks into neutral .
You're my kind of photo slut or.... is it idol. I call and raise you one -- no pun intended. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I think that is normal operating procedure for the F1 tranny after ~ five seconds -- so called safety feature.
thanks amenasce and it's ( than ) not ( htant ) but your english is way better than my french of which i know none
That says alot for the Ferrari. I had a GT2 for about a year and a half, similarly set up with aftermarket pipes and cats, although I didn't modify the ECU. It was extremely quick. I have not driven a 430 (yet) but thought the GT2 felt pretty planted at speed, at least compared with a(n early) 360. And, despite people's complaints about the gated shifter, I missed gears occasionally in the Porsche- it had a short shifter as part of the stock package in the GT2, which I didn't modify further, but I found myself hunting sometimes for third when I was moving quickly. I never liked the binary quality to speed in the car, though- even though changing the exhaust made a world of difference, or seemed to, in how quickly the boost came on, it was still two different cars, once the turbos kicked in. The other criticism I've had about more recent 8 cyl ferraris is the assisted steering. The GT2 had fairly heavy steering, at least it didn't feel too over assisted. Dunno what the newest Ferrari feels like. Guess I'll have to find out. Thanks for the comparo.
not sure yet . might rip the cats out or change exhaust . it's hard to find out about after market products in australia . there really isn't anyone who can give good advise or there isn't enough options here to compare one product against another . i'll rely on guys here from fchat to post their findings and go from there
