I'm not going to comet on that. Hey...what are you doing Friday? Star Trek is playing down at the Regal.
He might have a point...... Lamour keeps it pretty clean comparitively, I have never seen him post about genital warts in regard to gay colostomy prison sex.
Well, to be honest, the general posts themselves are not the big issue I believe, it is mostly the infantile responses. I truly think of those posting the "I'd hit it" type images, and the ejaculatory animated gifs show not only bad taste but more of teenage male posturing. Grow up.
John, I thought you were quite restrained. But what the heck happened? It was only 18 minutes from your "first" post to your comment that her PM was full. Did you post something earlier that was more "provocative" and then delete it?
"groan"....its a car site, folks. Lots of teenagers/college kids/dreamers/posers/etc. around. This isn't the Country Club, its cyberspace. Get used to it. Besides, didn't anyone see the sign on the door? OOT means "Other Off Topic". Don't come 'here' if you want to talk Ferraris that much - its a free-for-all. Too immature for you? Hang out in the Vintage section with the 'Olde Guard'. Guess somebody forgot to take their Geritol this morning.....
Uh, hi? Can at least 1 thread be left for seriousness? I guess even the thread for serious responses to the corrupting of OT is going to get **** on and hijacked. I have been here for a while - on the old site, before there were multitude of different boards dedicated to different kinds of Ferraris, before there even was an Off-Topic section. It is kind of funny when you think about the evolution of the site. The Off-Topic section was created on the old site when people started posting a bunch of threads, mainly Business/Investment or Politics/Religion related in General Ferrari Discussion. The Off-Topic section was a great place to go to talk about things that you really couldn't talk about on the general boards. It was easy to go to forum members for questions (not relating to Ferrari), advice, or even have intelligent discussion. Maybe the recent state of OT is more based on evolution than anything else. Now B&I is separate, and P&R is also separate. What is left for OT? I guess porn and thread crapping? It, to me is kind of depressing. I have been coming to these boards for YEARS now, and it is hard for me to really even click on my bookmark anymore. Since I am young, and don't have a Ferrari (or as much time as I did when I was in high school), I don't really read the main boards anymore. Also they are very segmented now so there is no real reason for me to log in to 10 different forums to see what I could have seen before in General Ferrari Discussion. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, it is just a shift. I am sure for actual owners of Ferraris, the subdivision of the boards is a huge help. That is ok though, because I could always log into OT, and still listen in on the discussion, post every once in a while, and remain an active member of the community. This is now not really possible. I log in, go to OT, and what do I see? There are a few serious threads here and there, but most of the threads are just pointless to even try to click on. Links to stupid movies, joke threads, and threads that are inside jokes to the 5 or 6 posters that continually post in them (although no one really else posts in them but them). Of the few serious threads actually posted anymore, 90% of them are derailed after 5 or 10 posts, at which point the thread turns into a circle-jerk of middle school humor and internet catchphrases. I am just complaining because it is the point of the thread, if I am "outgrowing" the community, I guess that is what happening. Although, I must note, that this is a pretty ironic thing as I am only 19 years old, and I am sure most of the people who are contributing to the degredation of the OT community are much older.
It is a Ferrari site. This site isn't supposed to be filled with a bunch young kids who are into putting a spoiler and coffee can exhaust on the back of their Civic. Owners of Ferraris are supposed to be mature, accomplished individuals who can have an actual discussion. Why should we have to go to the Vintage section to talk to people about things other than Ferraris? I mean, maybe these people didn't get their fix of the internet when they were young like me so now they are enjoying their forum experience through the great firewall of the intarweb. Maybe these people don't know about forums that would be better suited for this? I have a few links for you guys if you actually want to bring structure back to the OT forums. The communities are all much more interested in having fun games with their posts and jerking each other's e-peens. http://forums.somethingawful.com http://www.off-topic.net http://www.genmay.com If you visit and register on these forums, you may be able to constrain yourself from posting the same BS when you visit here. Then we can all be happy again?
IMO there should be nothing whatsoever to do with women on this forum, keep them out and stick to cars.
OOT is for the freedom to post whatever you want to post. On whatever topic you want. If you don't see enough 'quality' topics, then start your own post. You can understand that the 'mature accomplished individuals' you are looking for are very private individuals who, for the most part, don't branish their lifestyle/hobbies/wealth on a public forum that much. And they rarely spend time in front of a computer. You can only regulate so much - you want to have an age limit in Ferrarichat now, too? We already have a subscription service, lets take it a step further and have a 'sex police' while we're at it? I find it pretty easy to navigate around topics I cannot review while I'm at work....why can't you? If it offends you, DUH, don't look at it. 'Structure' is a veiled term for censorship - we are not fooled. There is GOBS of Ferrari-specific content here - most technical Ferrari discussions have already been discussed and brought up several times. Search the archives, they're pretty full. If people did this more often, they'd see that there aren't many NEW topics to discuss! There are so many people here, that at one time or another, pretty much everything has come up once or twice before. I don't feel the need to post 'tech' stuff too much, since I can answer most every question I have on my Ferrari by searching the archives and the data is there to answer my own questions.
Rikk, Well spoken. And I think the above quote holds true. However, I think owners (as well as Ferrari enthusiasts )are also, for the most part, lighthearted, youthful, and mischievous: and OOT is the section where they can have squirt-gun and snowball fights. Using school as an analogy, the other sections are classrooms, whereas OOT is recess and all the ruckuss and hellraising that typifies any schoolyard during such a time!
