FFerrari, If you are going to go that route you may want to wait till they make an auto trans for it. I hear the F-1 is really not the way to go in that particular car. I know a couple of guys that have driven them and that is what they told me. I love the style also... Andreas, I hear what you are saying about the name and all. As long as you keep the cars name in Italian you can always make words like 4-Door sound kool. Being Italian myself it's strikes me as kinda funny but it's still clever marketing. Thanks. Vince
Actually the Quattroporte name predated the 308qv by approximately a couple decades. The current Quattroporte is actually the fifth Maserati model to wear that name. The first came out in the 60s and was part of the same family of models as the Ghibli and Mexico. The second was a concept during the Citroen era that never really got off the ground; only a very few were built, and they may have all actually been prototypes. The third version, sold here from I think 1980 to 1986, was the first Maserati to employ the more angular design elements that were also used in the Biturbo line, although the Series III Quattroporte was much bigger than the Biturbos (it was a full-sized luxury sedan), and was powered by Maserati's classic 4-cam V8. The fourth Quattroporte was one of the last Biturbo-derived cars, and was never sold over here.
Thanks for that Chuck! Now I can see the heritage and it makes a LOT more sense to me. I thought it was a cheap marketing gimmick, but since there is real history in it, I tip my hat.
I believe Masarati sold the QP well before the QV was assigned the "QV" name. Besides, there were not nearly as intimate with Ferrari back then as they are (were?). ooops, should have what Chuck said... yeah, what he said!
A mood point now that Chuck set the record straight, but here it goes: I believe the QP came out/was announced/designed during the marriage with Ferrari. Hence I thought they just stole a piece of Ferrari's history and run with it. You're right, they no longer are tied to Ferrari. A good thing (and that's no stab against Chuck, you know I love your Biturbo!).
