I am not talking about those other people, we will always have people on the road who speed. My problem is people using our public roads as their private studio to make money. Saw a report a few months back but with motorcycles, They were doing some really crazy **** on highways and then the story went on to tell of the innocent people who got killed because of accidents those stunts caused. Why don't these people just film on a private track or something? I'll tell you, Because not that many want to buy if it's done in a controlled environment, They buy it because it looks cool being done on public roads right thru traffic. Below is what inside edition has on the story, Sure looks like it's about the money

"Meagher spoke with Rob Ferretti and his business partner, Dan Coyle at an exotic car dealership in New Jersey. Ferretti showed off a recently souped-up 2001 Corvette. He spent $60,000 to doubled the car’s horsepower. Feretti and Coyle say cars this powerful aren’t made to go the speed limit.
Ferretti, produces a video series called “Life After the Quarter Mile” that’s sold on the Internet. The video depicts Ferretti and his friends driving exotic cars such as Lamborghinis, Porsches, and Ferraris weaving in and out of traffic at excessively high speeds, with tight shots of speedometers that show speeds as high as 200mph. Ferretti sees nothing wrong with speeding and defends his driving style, saying, “I don’t think it’s the speed that kills. It’s the driver.”

So this is about the profit, I should of read all the posts before. It's ok to speed every now and then but when its flimed and money is being made a huge red flag goes up.

Can lowering speed limits increase accidents and accident severity? And raising them have little or no effect? A recent study performed to investigate the relationship between speed limits and accident rates found that in the case of Interstate Highways, the answer is yes.

On any given road, 85 percent of drivers travel at a speed that they find appropriate to the road, regardless of the posted speed limit. Some states use this "85-percentile" average speed in setting their speed limits. Yet, according to a Federal Highway Safety Administration report " ... the majority of speed limits are posted below the average speed of traffic."

When drivers encounter speeds they find unreasonably low, some will travel at the lower speed. But if most stay at higher speeds, faster moving cars are constantly overtaking and passing the slower-moving ones. This increases danger to both vehicles, since danger increases as the speed difference between vehicles increases.

Furthermore, if highway speed limits are set unreasonably low and are enforced through tickets to speeders, more motorists opt for secondary local roads with similar speed limits. These roads may be more convenient, but they have an accident rate nearly twice as high and an accident-fatality rate between two and three times that of the Interstate Highways.

Thus, the net effect of reducing speed limits may actually increase the number of speeding drivers and serious accidents on all roads.

On the other hand, while rural-interstate speed limits have been raised to 65 mph and traffic density on those roads has increased, the fatality rate on these roads has actually decreased. And according to a separate Federal Highway Administration study, raising speed limits does not increase speeding or the number of accidents.

The study suggests several ways that accidents can be reduced: 1.) interstate express roads should have speed limits representing road and tire design limitations; 2.) speed limits on these roads should be set by individual states and should reflect the effects of local traffic conditions and road quality; 3.) separate speed limits should be set for nighttime and wet roads; 4.) emergency services to rural roads should be improved to decrease the time it takes to get an accident victim to the hospital; 5.) seat belt laws should be strictly enforced; and 6.) laws regarding alcohol and other drug usage should be strengthened and diligently enforced.

It's not cool at all, but cars being driven like that on the road brings more appeal because other people are in the picture(go figure). Track videos with alot of people watching from the stands or ground involving exotic cars are shown internationally and make decent profit.

If anything we should promote videos like NASCAR....but with a twist. That way, "dangerous" drivers would wanna show off on the track to gain more attention postively. It may seem like a crazy or stupid idea, but if you got another concept let us all know :)

I understand the experienced car owners view here, for one I dont drive the type of car of cars you have, but if we cant agree on the type of content on the videos we might as well find a way to change it. Forget the profit being made, and the image it creates because that was always there.

Driving at high speeds through heavy traffic as shown in the segment is idiotic, incredibly reckless, and selfish. If you're not smart enough to wring out your car on a track, at least have the decency to find a wide open piece of road or push the envelope at less congested times of the day. I did dumb things when I was young as well - I'm 31 - but now I have a few kids and the thought of morons driving any cars (vettes, mustangs, vipers, ferraris, etc) like this while sharing the road with my wife and kids pisses me off.

I used to live in the SF bay area about 12 years ago and when I wanted to go fast I had to go to Nevada. I suggest you guys pick the track or Nevada. When I moved here I knew any thoughts of fast driving on the road were insane so I became a track junky.

If anyone doesn't think bad **** happens to people in exotics while doing this I remember someone about 3 or 4 years ago in a Diablo who used to attend events with me that was racing a Corvette? on Long Island and is now dead.

As for going on TV and talking about it I think that's great. Maybe someone in law enforcement will take care of this idiot before he kills someone.

at the BMW dealership last friday getting my M3 serviced. Technician asks, "Seems like you're enjoying the car. Are you driving it hard?"

    1. I can't reach my license unless you hold my beer. (OK in Texas)

    2. Sorry, Officer, I didn't realize my radar detector wasn't plugged in.

3.Aren't you the guy from the Village People?

    4. Hey, you must've been doin' about 125 mph to keep up with me. Good job!

    5. Are You Andy or Barney?

    6. I thought you had to be in relatively good physical condition to be a police officer.

    7. You're not gonna check the trunk, are you?

    8. I pay your salary!

    9. Gee, Office r! That's terrific. The last officer only gave me a warning, too!

    10. Do you know why you pulled me over? Okay, just so one of us does.

    11. I was trying to keep up with traffic. Yes, I know there are no other cars around.. That's how far ahead of me they are.

    12. When the Officer says "Gee Your eyes look red, have you been drinking?" You probably shouldn't respond with,"Gee Officer your eyes look glazed, have you been eating doughnuts?"

When we were younger, my cousin used to drive fast and just plain stupid sometimes.. When he would get nailed speeding on a highway, he would tell the officer he was going a little fast to get to the next rest area cause he really "hadda go" and would bounce up and down in his seat.

It worked a few times! One time a cop said, "Follow Me" and led the way.

Always got a kick outta that.

I know this thread has kinda gotten off the topic, and i unfortunately did not get to see the piece air. I did read the article on the Inside Edition site that some of you posted. I do have to say it was a bad move to bring something like that into the public eye. I dont drive mine hard like these younger folks these days seem to do in their hooked up Integras and Evo's. Will I break 100MPH on occasion? Sure I will. I was always of the opinion, even when I was a younger driver, that there is a time and a place. An empty Rt 78 on a Sunday afternoon in NJ-- You can cruise 140 and probably wont pass many cars. Parkway south at 8pm on a Friday Summer night in NJ.. NOT the time! Thats a bad situation waiting to happen.

My point? OUT OF SIGHT, OUT OF MIND! KEEP THIS STUFF OUT OF THE PUBLIC EYE!!

You blew this joke. It was part of a story Jay Leno told.
Policemen do have charity balls it's the CHP that don't hence the comment from a CHP officer when a young lady asked if she could contribute. Leno says it's a true story, sure ....

Uh, we get crazy and stupid people at the track as well.

Usually it's the ones that "know" they're hot sh*t because they've already done it all on the street. The difference is they're only endangering the rest of us foolish enough to go out on the track with them. I don't like them at the track either but better there than out on the road.

Then of course there's always the basic fact that all of us can have slips of judgement when competition or egos become involved.

My wife refers to this as having your b*lls in the carburetor.

At least at the track its all a bunch of loons that signed up for it.

but that's the same argument as "guns don't kill people, people kill people."

in some sense, the driver killing versus speed killing is true... it would be nicer if THAT fast was saved for the race track, though...

I don't think a little speed is that bad, especially if the highway is wide open... if it isn't, all you would need is one person to change lanes unexpectedly and no matter how good of a driver you are, you may not be able to avoid a problem...

This is going to be a very general statement but....

....it is not the guy in the exotic car, M3, or Z06 that scares me but the person in the GTI, turbo-charged Civic, Mustang etc who scares the crap out of me when they're out with something to prove. Those are usually the ones i see weaving in and out of traffic causing accidents, not the guy in the Ferrari

    just my two cents
