Drive a CGT, then we'll talk. F-cars aren't the only soul-stirrers ever created!

It's funny when any Ferrari turns out to be cheaper than the competition...

It is not a question of cheaper, it is simply an observation. Compare similar cars with similar price tags. Why is it that you decide not to compare the top of the line models from Porsche & Ferrari? Instead, you compare the best from Porsche, but not from Ferrari. How does the GT compare with the Enzo in your book?

They are comparing the two because the thread starter either had both or was going to buy one or the other. There is no enzo in this conversation.

In assessing the performance of the Carrera GT vs the F430:

traction is a problem, so 0-60 means nothing, they are about equal in that; however the quarter mile times while starting to show the difference are still hampered by traction in the porsche, but look at the MPH (about 133 for the porsche vs 120ish for the ferrari) and of course handling prowess where the porsche is pure LM car. as for top speed, porsche went for max downforce so u as a consumer wont die hitting that speed. they are in NO way comparable performance wise. Nring times say it all, 750ish to 730ish. thats sitting at the finish line having a beer, reading the paper when the F430 comes through.

Drive or ride in one. then come and tell me you would take a 430 over it.

    Quote from Vix:

"When looking strictly at each cars performance data, they are very close in acceleration, top speed & handling. Gt 0-62 is 3.9 secs, F430 4.0 "

The 0 - 60 for the F-430 is more in the mid 3 second range:

    http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?section_id=35&article_id=2724

    A 360 is a 4 second 0 - 60 car.

But as Danny Devito said in Ohter Peoples Money
    "who cares"

You say the Porsche is reliable and well-made, but then you call it a POS???

It is EXACTLY what you say it is. Well-made and reliable.....

And maybe it is because they ARE so well-made that you see them all the time. Cause they are NOT garage-queens, they get driven, and DON'T spend half of their life in the shop!!!

If you hadn't you wouldn't claim that Porsche lost its "Exotic" title with the advent of the Boxster.......So, you are saying it WAS "exotic" when the ol' 914, 924, 944, and 928 were rolling off the production lines throughout the 70s and 80s?? You might want to open your history book a little more towards the front.

By the way, I think you need to know your Porsches a little better. On our last backroads, middle of nowhere, farmcountry, drive, the Twin Turbo Porsche won the "Fastest Car of the Day" award at a nice 160mph....

    Very classy Rick!
For those who question the capabilities of the CGT and believe that the 430 is even in the same ballpark, they are deluded.
The CGT is one hellava of a car. At $350k it's an absolute steal!
I'm a certifiable Ferrari nut (see my profile if you doubt it) but the CGT feels like nothing else I own on the track. It is simply the most competent track car I have ever driven, and I am so far away from realizing its full potential it's not even funny.
I love my F40 for its rawness and the Stradale is fantastic (better than the 430 on a track as well) but the CGT is just the best I have.
Enjoy the car Lewey - drive the heck out of it and don't worry about hitting the plastic spoiler lip on the bumps. It's the cheapest part on the car! I've fortified mine with black duct tape and it holds up pretty well.

I am just in a foul mood due to the 35 degree weather we are having right now with the threat of more snow just around the corner. And have been now for about two weeks....... ;-)

Heck, I am going to go tear the cover off my F-Car and take it for a spin just to spite the weatherman!!!

The CGT is a great car. The only thing I didn't like about it was that it's so smooth that you build up huge speed far beyond what you realize in a hurry.

P has a long and wonderfull racing heritage. In FIA GT 2 they left Ferrari far behind.

F430 is better than a CGT? You guys are smoking something and not sharing.

I was lucky to ride shotgun in an extremely well driven GT3 RS a few months back with two CGTs on the track. It isn't close, hell, it isn't the same sport.

Don't get me wrong, I like Ferraris a lot, but the CGT is up there with the Enzo, not the entry level Ferrari...

It is strange that, when someone announces a new purchase other than an F car, no less than a car at the level of the CGT, not only do some come out denigrating the purchase, but add ignorance to the mix by making claims suggesting that the Porsche is somehow a lesser car than it is.
I had the pleasure of driving the CGT under controlled conditions on a track for part of a day and it is the best car I've ever driven. Now, admittedly, I haven't driven everything, but have owned and driven my share of Ferraris, Porsches, and other cars, and it is on a very short list of 'next' cars for me.
Having said that, I don't want to denigrate the latest 8 cyl. Ferrari in any way- but I do think that those rose-colored glasses get worn here sometimes by folks who reveal their ignorance when making claims and comparisions for Ferrari that simply don't withstand scrutiny.

Congrats on your new acquisition. What a great car, Enjoy.

ferrari states 0-62 in 4.0 with the launch control, which the american cars dont have...as for road and track, they also got 3.9 0-60 on a regular carrera s!!!1 also, that was on the ferrari track, which is down hill and most of 430 s tested since then havae tested closer to 4.0 to 60...i have seen 3.6 and 3.7 which the cgt..keep in mind the cgt is lighter than the 430 and has 125more hp!!!!and btw, i will take the sound of cgt over the 430 any day..........

Got two landmark cars, here, from two landmark marques.
Bottom line is that we don't want lose the original poster--and his value-- just because he sold his Ferrari 430 and bought a CGT.
Jeeze! Who wouldn't give a testicle to be in his shoes?
Work to keep him, I say.
