Sad to come across this memorial thread ; but good to know that a fellow fan lived his life well. Condolences to those who knew him for their loss.
Sadly, I was in LA, at the time of Andrew's funeral. I will go through life, wishing I had let him have a drive of the LM, because he was the sort of guy, that would have treated it with the respect needed, (because it belongs to somebody else). Andrew was the sort of guy, who, you could trust with your car. One of the true, special members of the FCA. Andrew was the sort of guy, that would have probably finished up as the PRES of, Ferrari Club Australia.
well, you could be right. BUT my idea of a president , is somebody who is regarded highly by ALL members, who makes the effort to talk to all members even if they ONLY own a 308/246/328. A statesmen sort of person. In the past we have had some great presidents, Ray, Cheryl, Bill prowse, Ron Davis, and Geoff P. All great presidents because they talked to all the members and made them all feel welcome to the club.
never a true statement be said about a top bloke, i only read about him and john M told me about him, well it kinda gets to you, and considering i had to follow the SA president some of the weekend in the Classic there is not much to say about him but he did say at a function last wednesday that it was because of the Victorians that he did not get in as president of Aust. Furthermore he gave no time to anybody else in the event that drove what he called old ferraris (meaning older than his japanese import 355 spider) so he quickly got taken in a closed section by Brockie in the elfin and goober in a GT4 - which upset him to no end. so further to F40LMGTC re respecting and accepting all members well this bloke from SA in his nice red michael schumacher uniform would have been and will be the wrong choice in future.
Gee, that's disappointing, because I voted for him. And I'm not sure of this, "Victorians didn't vote for me" stuff, because I know of a few of us over here that thought (maybe wrongly), that he was the guy for the job. I genuinely thought that he was that sort of guy, that would "talk to all members, no matter what car you had" You see, to me, being an owner of a 308 (amongst other things), I can appreciate being only able to afford a 308/246/328, when all the hot shots have 355/360 and nobody takes the time to talk to you and you feel left out. Being the owner of 2 F40's, I will still talk to anyone. please note:- I never want to be president..............a thankless job.
Having spoken to Andrew on many an occasion about the "politics" in the FCA, I could never get him to criticise anyone within the club, even "privately".... even the ONLY person I dislike in the FCA I really don't think it appropriate to raise any issues on this thread, other than thoughts for AHG. By all means start another thread, but not on this one ... please Phil
Well, 20 years today since AHG shuffled off this mortal coil. I hope you're enjoying your Pista Piloti Andrew, up there in the racetrack beyond the pearly gates.
