I asked part of this question in March 05, I didn't act on it till we had a cold front go through and I had to put the top back on so I have to be able to unlock the door from the outside.
I have passenger all the way panal off.
The drivers has the remote mirror so the panel is not free of the door.
am not sure if the unplug from the mirror?
I was able to clean and lube the passenger door to get it lock and unlock
with the key in the door. Removed the arm from the solenoid as JON S
suggested but if I lock the door with the knob when the door is open it wiill
    NOT shut.
Spent today making a 30mm tool to adjust the drivers side as RIA suggested.
This nut is loose (is is supposed to be tight?
and if it is what do hold on to as you tighten it?

And it would be nice to get the driver side door panel out of the way.

There was another F-chatter that suggested lubing the lock but I can't
    remeber his name.
    Thanks in advance.

steve: i read your post and went down and tried the doors on my 81. they shut fine with the inside lock button depressed. something else must be wrong in the lock mechanism. as i said all i did was disconnect the solenoid linkage rod. good luck. jon s.

You can easily unplug the switch that controls the mirror. The plug is right at the the switch, inside the armrest.
On my 83 308 the doors will not shut with the button depressed they just bounce back open.
The lock is a fairly simple device and a piece of plastic is somewhat a press fit onto the key mechanism. Perhaps this piece of plastic has become disconnected from the small protusion on the key mechanism. Rotate the key while viewing inside the door.

First to Jon S my doors act like Chris March's even with the linkage removed.

To Chris I have looked at the lock and with the exception of possible wear in the lock cylinder (the key rotates to far before the linkage engages) can see nothing wrong. I am at 61 not nimble enough with my fingers to attempt unplug the switch (there is a post about fixing the window systen and the author point out that the edge connector is easily broken and he talks aout forceing the switch out of the armrest.
At this point I had the passenger door working then I put on the panel and it stopped seems that the knob has enough drag and there is enough play in the linkage that is all it takes.

I looked at the link from ownerferrari to UK and the cylinders are about a $100 euros each and since I anm not sure what I am doing, I am giving up.

    thanks

ps the F-chatter that suggest cleaning and lubing was Chris King I want to thank him also.

Well, I am out of ideas on the door lock. But my owners manual says something like "never attempt to close door with lock button engaged" this scared me and I fear it may easily be broken. Do you need the lock maybe you could disconnect it to get the latch to work.

The 308 door latch is a tricky and somewhat delicate assembly...

The plunger knob and key are operating in resistance to the spring......once certain travel (tension) is achieved, it 'snaps' quickly between the open and closed locked position...

Sorry I cannot be of more help. I have not been able to follow my tech as he makes this adjustment, his only admonition:

    "DON'T SLAM IT!!!!"

He is right, if latch catch and door internal parts are adjusted correctly it operates with a very light 'click'...almost delicate.

Got it back together. B4 I put the panel on the passenger side I could lock and unlock with the key in the passenger door, now it does NOT lock or UNLOCK with the key.

I will get a shift gate lock an console my self that my windows won't get broke by somebody trying to steal it :)

    May I will get Bigtex's mechanic's address.
