On a 2V inj. USA spec cap there is what appears to be a Carbon button that has a spring on the back of it. It is right under where the coil wire comes into the dist. cap. My car was missing the springs and just the carbon button was sitting in there loosely. My ? is should that carbon button contact the ignition rotor when the caps are on the engine or should it be very very close but not touch? Thanks.

    Yes,
There should be a spring forcing the carbon piece onto the rotor. It should touch. A new carbon piece with spring can be purchased from Ferrari, Grand Touring Car parts in Phoenix, TRutlands in Tucker Georgia, and the other sources.

I purchased mine from Ferrari UK. They are a low cost item.
