Get the Z06 , remove the runflat tires to get a more "communicative" feel ... Keep your 348 and enjoy both. Although getting a 550 to partner the 348 is a cool way to go .
i have a 355 and a viper... great combo because they both balance each others pros and cons... as for the Z06...this is not about bang for the buck..its about what compliments his other car.. being a 'statistic junkie' and buying a vette because it posts a very small performance increase ( which lets face it NONE of these cars can reallu use on the street in day to day driving )is not being a car enthusiast. If you really like your 348 I say keep it and get something with torque..diablo, viper.. if you're going to spend $$ might as well get something that people notice. Nobody but a select few will ever notice the vette. ( by the way this is coming from someone who is considering buying one as a daily driver so dont think Im vette hating - but regardless of their performance they just dont have that 'thing' that makes people turn their heads )
Let's answer the guys question.....I think he may have meant "is owning a 348 and 355 a bit redundant and therefore a weak idea?" My thinking: YES. If you are going to have 2 "less then practical & rather costly" sports cars....you may as well try to get some variety and pick-up some different flavors. V8 to V12, Berlinetta to Spider, stiff pocket-rocket to freeway luxury cruiser. The 348 and 355 are so related to eachother that it would seem redundant to have both. I was parked next to a 348 with the same color combo as my 355....you can so easily see the transition in model. Nahhh...much like a good investment portfolio: DIVERSIFY, but since you know Ferrari is the winner that works for ya, stick with the Black Horse. I agree in checking out the 456 or 550 series. As for the Z06, yeah...Detroit managed to stick al lot of torque & speed into that thing, but it's still...well, you know.
Thanks for all your replies. I'm going to be driving a bunch of cars - probably more cars that sport 10 or 12 cylinders. I drove a 355. It feels very different from my 348, but in someways very similar. I love the power of the 355 compared to the 348, but I like the non-power steering. In terms of how the cars look - I think it's a wash. They're both great looking rides. So I'll be looking at the 550, Viper, Aston Martin, and maybe something crazy like a Noble. We'll see. I'll keep you posted.
Obviously your call, cant imagine myself dying to keep a 348 when I have a 355, if one is leaving, its the 348!
Drive a 550. It will redefine your perceptions. After owning three 348's (including Spider), two 355 Berlinetta's and a 360 Coupe, driving a 550 I was blown away by the combination of devastating performance (feels faster than a Diablo), build quality, handling and ride. That is the only car you will ever need and you will be constantly making excuses for going out just to drive it. When I got my first 355 about 7 years ago I loved it, felt it was a real step forward over the 348, but driving one recently it didnt feel as good, and if anything I agree with the other guys who said the steering and also the meatier feel of the 348 was better. Thinking back on it, although a fantastic car, I never really liked the 355 steering. My second 355, a '97 car did feel better than the '95.
I could care less of what people "think" - I was asking for opinions based upon other owners experiences.
The 355 is such a great car IMO. I just loved the one I owned and expect to own another in the future.
