Just wondering if any of you fellow F chatters ever go to Bing Crosby's in Walnut Creek. Seems like there is always a lot of exotics there. I saw two F430's parked there today, one Gregio with Stock rims and behind it was a Red with Challenge Rims. There was also a Aston Martin Vanquish parked behind along with a 996 TT.
I thought the food was excellent, and the service was great. Bad thing is you have to book really far in advance...
Bing's food was ok, but if you are out in Walnut Creek, the very best restaurant, HANDS DOWN, is "Va De Vi" wine bistro, which sits between the Tiffany store and the Tommy Bahama Store. The food is absolutely fantastic. Parking ain't so hot, but if you're lucky, you can get a sport right out front on Mt. Diablo Blvd. Try the Crab Lumpia, the Red Curry Halibut, or the outta-this-world-tender Kobe beef Come to think of it, "Va De Vi" may be one of the very best restaurants in Northern California. And no, I don't own it... Damn, now I'm hungry...
There is Prima little further dowmn on Main St. that is an excellent, but pricy restaurant that one might consider.
Dave, Excellent Suggestion! Everytime I am in Walnut Creek, I always have a hard time deciding where to go. I've seen the restaurant you are talking about before, but never ventured into it. I'll definetly give it a shot. Thanks -John
You're right the food did suck. Once was enough for me. People didn't go there for the food. They went because it was the cool place to be. And if you took a "COOL" car it got parked right in front so you could look cool in two places at once.
Bing's has replaced Chang's as the cougar den of W.C. Food is okay. Service is spotty. I hate chains, but I have to admit that the best restaurant in WC is Ruth's Chris. If you enjoy wine, Prima is the spot. Va De Vi is a tapas place. Very tasty, but don't go if you have an appetite. Very popular with the Alamo housewives after a rough morning of shopping
Ruth's Chris over Va De Vi?!?! Are you joking? That's like saying you prefer a Ford Taurus SHO to an F430 Spider. I think we need a "taste off"... And I agree, Prima has an excellent wine list, and the food is good, but not as it was a few years ago. Last time in I was disappointed. Maybe just a fluke...
Prima's service is really great. Food isn't cutting edge. It's a dependable business meal location. Va De Vi is really good, but it reminds me of dim sum. You keep ordering these little plates of bite sized treats that are served "family style" and wine by the glass and when you have finally had your fill, the bill comes and it's quite a shock. Portions are "chick" sized to match their target market. I would go there for cocktails, or if I had eaten a big lunch or knew I was going to have a heavy meal later. Bottom line is that the food is not "plentiful." A great place if you aren't starving. Ruth's Chris is someone giving you a Taurus to keep and Va De Vi is someone letting drive his 430. As great as one ride in a 430 would be, I'll take the Taurus for keeps. Two more suggestions: Caffe Della Stella next to Prima on N. Main. Not as fancy, but it's a family place that has great specials, especially fish. Le Bistro: Tiny little French place that is also family owned and operated. Great Provencal style food. Also on N. Main next door to the Stadium Pub, which, by the way, has excellent food for that type of venue. A great place to grab a sandwich, have a beer and watch a game. Parking for all of these places is tough, unless you park in one of the garages. Bring the Ferrari, tip the valet, and leave it out front.
I've been to every restaurant in walnut creek; no joke. And every place I have been, the food is atleast tolerable. I think when people say PFChangs food sucks its either because they cant afford it or because they want to say that to be different. Even if you didn't like the food, it doesn't suck. Sure I dont LOVE their food, except for their Changs ribs. mm. And Bing's is a great place to go in Walnut Creek. Very nice place, great atmosphere. Food was very decent, but I go for the ambiance(sp?). As for Va Da Vi, i agree with everything that has been said about it. Ruths Chris may not have the best steak, but I think its the best steak in Walnut Creek. Its very very good steak and great side dishes. Prima, I have been about four or five times.. Every time I have had a bad service experience. It could just be a fluke though, but their food was again, fairly decent. Some of the best food I have had is at this place called Du Luk. I think that is how you spell it. I think it is on locust near krogans but dont quote me. I'm 99% sure its vietnamise(sp?). Anyways, to go along with the thread, yes, Bings does attract a lot of exotics. I saw a SLR there one night. Waited about 20 minutes for the owner to come out and take off; i have never heard one in person. He didn't show.
No, some of us have lived in Asia and know what the food is supposed to taste like. Their version sucks.
And some of us have been to great Asian resturants in the states and PF Changs is much closer to frozen food at Safeway.
Frozenguy, The person who owned the SLR never made it out because he was actually eating at PF Chang's and the paramedics took him to Kaiser Hospital!
HAHAHAHAHHA.. after realizing a half-a-million dollar Mercedes Benz was automatic...wow.. PF Chang's looks like a great place to go if you want to stay healthy; NOT!
right, so it sucks because SOME of you have lived in asia?? ok.. well it tastes good to me.. so maybe it isn't exactly the same as its origin accross the world, but it still tastes good.. Coming from someone who has never been to an asian country mind you, i have heard from others who have that the food in itself is just different. not comparable.. its different food prepared differently. the food sells. they dont even advertise. not that i've seen, so i'm just wondering who YOU are to say the food SUCKS.. when they are doing so well. and actually, if you would care to look at the menu or read the nutritional facts, their food is fairly decent.. and they offer the largest selection of special needs food directly on their main menu than i've seen anywhere else. you should hear about claim jumpers nutritional facts.. it would make all of you sick to know how much of what you consumed there (if you ate there).. in fact, i'm suprised it hasn't been regulated yet.. Peter
call me cheap but I would much rather go to Vic Stewart's or 3 Seasons instead of all the aforementioned restaurants above when I'm in Walnut Creek. I had absolutely the worst service ever at Va De Vi and Bing Crosby's. We had a private table at BC and we were out of wine for over half and hour before they even realized. That's pretty unacceptable.
It is chain food and it tastes like it. Nothing special. People really do need to branch out and try small hole in the wall places that don't get biweekly deliverys from Sysco...
Frozenguy, I think I know who you are talking about. The SLR Mclaren I saw there was silver. I am sure the guy just parked the car their for a day just to show it off and ventured somewhere else. A lot of people with nice cars seem to do that there when they can't find parking anywhere else on the strip. Anyways it seems like this thread is getting a lot attention. Maybe we can a start a "Best Bay Area Food Thread" I'd be interested to hear your guys experiences with restaurants you guys enjoyed.
Da Lat in Walnut Creek is some of the best Vietnamese food I've ever had. Cheap too. Not a well appointed resturant, but just damned great food.
