If you had both cars sitting right there in front of you, which car would you take? 2003 SRT-10 for 58K w/8K miles vs. a brand new C6 Z06 going for 70K.

Taking EVERYTHING into consideration (Value, looks, performance, etc..) Which would you take??

I am getting a new car in April and I am so confused. Thought I would see what others would choose. Thanks

zo6. If this Gen Viper is anything like the last I would feel more confident in it zo6. The Vette is just more comunicative. Oh, yea... and I want a roof.

hmmm..this could get interesting. I postes this question about 2 months ago on the Porsche forums but in regards the C6 Z and the GTS, and about 99% of the people said Z06.

Id be interested to see what people would think now comparing the Z to the SRT instead.

    Here is the delima:

Z06 is the better performer, in all aspects.
Z06 has a lot more gadgets, much more comfort, and can be a cumfy DD

Viper is more exotics and more rare
Viper (03) can be had for 15K cheaper, and has already hit its depreciation

God, it is so confusing...I test drove an SRT last year and with my luck, it was a dud. Car started to bog at 4K rpms so we had to take it back to the dealer. That is all I remember about that car.

One of the reasons I am aiming towards the Viper is due to value. I am not some rich kid (25 yrs old) so I have to think wisely what I want to do with my money, and when/if I spend 70K on the vet, I will lose a lot of $ due to depreciation in the upcoming years. The nice thing about the Viper is that it already took that hit.

    Wathca think?

Viper all the way and I dont even like the srt-10. What I do know is a z06 is just a corvette. but a viper is a viper. give it 5 years when people can buy used c6's for 25k (which 90% of people do not know the difference of) and think of that 45k you lost. The viper will never be sold at 25k or 30k.

I suggest you buy both, At 26 i had a corvette and a ferrari.

Z06 much better car. Brand new, warranty, top performance. Personally the Vette has a lot longer history than the snake.

It also has a longer history of being a girls car!

Every corvette I see has a woman driving it nowadays!

No offense, but if you're really wanting to think wisely with your money, neither car should be on your list unless you make a lot more than most 25 yo's.

I know you are still waiting for my report.lol. I just don't have time at the moment to do a detailed report. That being said...the only time you will get the advantage of the Z06's superior straightline performance is in a standing start. From a roll...anything over 25mph(street stuff), the Viper will prevail . Speaking from experience here. The Z's TC and gearing get it going quickly, but the Vipers power is much stronger throughout the RPM range. The Viper is as you said, more exotic looking, and much more rare. You may not see another one on the street in 6months. When I switched cars with my friend, he commented on the amount of attention and looks he received while in my '04. He is a Vette guy, but said as most have that the Z06 looks enough like the c6, except to the car buffs. Your point about the depreciation is key. It has taken the bulk of the hit. You know where the Z will go in 2 years. Unless you plan on tracking the cars....the hard core handling and feel doesn't matter much. For the street, the Viper , once mastered....will provide a more driver involved event, and more fun. Sooooo, my advise would be to go with the Snake. But I was impressed with the Z06 during my 3 hour flogging. Alot of gadgets, alot of power.

    Depends on usage.

I am not so sure the Vette is the better performer all around - certainly faster, but I have heard some negative reviews on the handling and I believe the SRT is superior in braking and I've seen higher slalom numbers in some tests. But that is only relevant if you track the car.

Looks - the SRT is way inferior to the GTS but its much better than the Vette. Resale, the Viper will always be higher. Check out what % of MSRP a 1996 Vette goes for then compare that to a 1996 Viper (or 1997, 1998, 1999, or whatever year).

If you intend to modify the car the Viper is the clear winner. Twin turbos making 1200hp+ are becoming almost commonplace in the Viper world.

If you want to daily drive the car, the Z is the clear winner. Most Vipers are owned by people who use them as toys - I would never daily drive one.

Ya, i really dont care much about what mags have to say. I am not going to be racing anyone around the corner anytime soon on the streets, or in a str8 line (Only if it gets that tempting..;))

I dont care about what mags say, but I do care about what the owners say. I have spoken to three different people that own both the Viper coupe and the C6 Z, and they all agreed that the Z06 is the quicker car, from a stand or from a roll. They all said that the handeling is phenomenal on the Z, and 2/3 agreed that the brakes on the Viper are better.

I have no doubt that a well driven Z is quicker/faster than a SRT-10. I mean look at the specs, it is obvious. And being a hardcore performance kind of guy, I started to swing towards the Z. But, in the end, I think my money is more important, and the Viper being that it already hit its depreciation peak, might be the better value of a car.

I guess the only way I would be really turnd off is if i drive the srt for half an hour and hate it. I have heard both sides of it. "Oh my god that thing is hell. Can't get in it, can't get out. Gets really hot, very cramped, etc.." and I have also heard "All that is just nonsense. The Viper is awesome, fit and finish is awesome, does not get too hot, etc.."

i'd probably pick the z06. i think it comes down to small things, and i really just like the sound of the v8 better than the sound of the v10. plus everyone seems to burn themselves on the sidesills which is a bit of a turnoff

I do agree here that the vet sounds much better than the Viper.

I need a car that is as cumfy and has the gadgets like the vet, looks of a Viper, sound like a vet, comfort like a vet, rare and looks like the Viper, has the speed of the vet and holds its value like a Viper.

Anything come to mind under 100k?..lol

Viper. The cash you save can go into mods, and you have a convertible instead of a coupe.

It is not as comfy as the Z06.....but not enough of a difference to be an issue. I used my 94 RT10 as a daily, logged over 110k on it. And the SRT is a Limo compared to the older RT10's.

Never really cared for a conv. too much.

My main reason for leaning towards the Viper is the depreciaiton it that it already took and the fact that it will save me $. Is this a ligit reason or am I just crazy? lol

The real question is: what are you going to use the car for? Big pimpin? Daily driver? Track? Or is this an image thing?

The Corvette is the better car.

Ahh, this is exactly what I need to test out. This is what I was talking about when I said I heard both sides. I drove an SRT before, but it was for like 5 mins, a year ago, and it was a dud.

I need to get a good hour drive in one as the above is very important to me. I need to be cumfortable in a car. Some people dont care, I do.

If the SRT is indeed like you say close in comfort, and the fact that it already took the depreciation hit, i am sold.

Anyone in MI have an srt they would let me drive?..:)

Daily driving, big pimpin, and straightline performance..:) I dont care about going around an oval track. The only track the car will be seeing is the dragstrip

Def. not an image thing. If it were an Image thing I'd buy a yellow w/black striped 99 GTS..;)
