Lusso, can you explain the bit on how "high-strung cars should be eating clutches", I'm still trying to understand how to properly clutch my 348...

What I meant by "any high-strung car should be eating clutches if driven properly IMO" is that high-strung cars need revs to accelerate. I feel that acceleration should be done within the power-band, and this is less stressful to an engine than accelerating from below the power-band (what I referred to as efficiency range previously). If you keep the car within its powerband when going through the gears, lets say 5,500-7,500 rpm, the flywheel will be spining faster and increase wear on the clutch.

This doesn't have much to do with how to properly clutch, which appears to be your question, but I can tell you that I always heel-toe/rev-match for down shifts, and add double-clutching when not really pushing it. Many believe that double-clutching doesn't do much good with modern gearboxes, but I can tell a difference in the smoothness of shifts when I do it. If it might save a synchro - why not? It isn't practical (for me at least) in a track environment, or when I really want to push it.

I once read a book put out by Kawasaki regarding motorcycles but what really sticks in my mind is where they had a ten question and answer segment and one of the questions was:
Q:Does it do an engine more harm to run it at too many rev's or too little revs (lugging)?
A:Too low. (too high isn't as bad because oil pressure is high it's warmer and everything is flowing good at too low RPM's the article said you can do real harm to a crankshaft and rod bearings from lack of oil pressure and momentum of pistons in a lugging state)

I have no idea what that is.

Maybe the car would have survived if he kept the speed under 150.

My 1996 Land Rover Discovery rolled over the 300.000 Km (NOT miles) barrier a couple of months ago.

Still going strong, no oil consumption, just small stuff that you may expect after that many km's and no rust.

He can't post it because 'magically' it will become another low, low mileage Ferrari (asuming a 5 digit odo). :)
