These have actually been bugging me for a while but because of the recent F50 ride thread I decided to finally post them.

    1) Why do some have clear headlights and others have dark ones? and
    2) Are there any red ones with dark ones? (Besides the ex-azzurro)

    Thanks

I'm guessing that you are talking about some yellow F50s which have been seen with dark tinted headlights. As for rosso corsa F50s I myslef have not seen any with the dark tint on the headlights. Maybe someone else has?

Any red one with dark headlights did not leave the factory red. My guess is that it has been repainted. I believe all the none red ones had dark headlights. I have seen a yellow one in japan with painted headlights but the Japanese like to mod ferrari's.

I don't think you are seeing a tint on the headlight lens - that wouldn't make much sense at all. What you are seeing is an unpainted inner headlight housing.

As was stated in that other thread - someone has to crack the seal on the headlamp unit and paint the inner housing the proper color, which isn't an easy task.

I don't know why Ferrari didn't paint the insides of the ones for cars that weren't red. Maybe the headlight supplier would only agree to offer them in either red or black. I will say that yellow F50 certainly looks better to me with the matching headlamps. The cars with the unpainted lights always look like they have black eyes to me.

The answer to your question is: basically, the only cars with body colour headlights were the 2 shades of Red. The other colours ALL had black coloured headlight surrounds. This is stated in the spare parts book.
So I guess it is fair to say that anything different to this has been done after delivery.
The only red car that I have seen with black lights is the car that started out red, was painted azzuro, then went back to red. This is the ex- Cage car.

breaking the seal isnt actually that difficult. Although I wouldnt try it on a Ferrari, I've done others before. You just need to warm in oven (lowest setting will do) leave light in for about 15-20 mins and it loosens up the seal enough you can remove lens from backing.
