I will keep the offer to rebuild the tranny in mind when I get it apart here to see whats up.

As far as the COPs go I am happy to fab you one for free for all the help you have given me over the two years + we've been here. I'll get mine done as soon as I get my tranny back so I will keep everyone updated along the way.

Hopefully I will have tranny pictures Thursday.

    Just a little update.

The gear box has been torn down and is sitting in Fatso's garage :D. The rear bevel gear has only two teeth that are good. It looks kinda like when Billybob smiles. Hahahahaha, JK. A clip that holds the balls in place, on one of the bearings, was completely gone, and the broken metal parts in the gear box. Soooooo I'm guesing that is what caused the bevel gear to loose all the teeth. The price the dealer quoted me for the gears, yes gearzzz, they only sell them in a set, nice hu, is INSANE!!!! So I'm exploring my alternatives.

Yes we have been taking pics, but those will come later.

Erine what did they quote you for the gears? I am just curious because I was in Germany all week and got nothing done on the gearbox but from talking a little to FBB via PM's it seems like we might have had the same issue from my ignitial diagnostics. Got to wait to get the whole box all apart before I can really figure it out.

    Okay are you sitting down.

Ferrari Beverly Hills quoted $2275.00 for the pair! I tried calling the the LA Auto Gallery but the parts department NEVER answered the phone. I'm guessing the price will be about the same.

Get them from FoUK. That was about the price for ALL the parts Byron's car needed.

I would try Ferrari of Orange County, Chris in parts, and the rest of them are great to work with. They will help you out. 714-662-7600.

    Ernie -

Call or PM me with the part numbers you require. If I can't beat the price from *any* FNA dealer, well, I'll be a monkey's uncle.... especially for a fellow "brother".

    Thanks Daniel.

I'll pm you with the number for the gears. Most of the bearings are SKF and I have a place that I can get those from.

    Hey Matt,

We had Firestone Pizza today. I don't know what's more expensive, paying the labor at the dealer, or feeding FatBillyBob's face. Hahahahaa.

Erine - Glad to hear you have everything flowing to you to get your car fixed. I am down the path of getting my parts from Daniel as well. Just going to do all the bearing since I am in the tranny as well as fix what I ground up.

As far as the overall damage I caused I am a lot happer than I thought I would be. Basically the outter main shaft bearing on the driver side went and caused the shaft to shift and start grinding down the oil pump plate. All the metal in the transmission was from that plate or the bearing guts so thank god no gear damage or even wear.

Hopefully will have it back together here before X-mas and then can get back to my COP conversion. Its a killer waiting around with a nice wire loom and setup all ready to go but no car to test it on.

Well we did not take too many pictures. I was too busy eating the pizza Ernie bought. Ernie asked me to post this. Ernie has basically done everything himself. I just stood around as comfort. He was worried about doing the wrong thing. He did fine. Occasionally I brought out a "Ferrari Especial Tool". Anyway I just sat around and Ernie fed my fat face while he worked. See....

So in Ernie's case the main pinion shaft gear is broken pics to follow and this was caused by failed bearings allowing the main and layshaft to slap back and forth. This cause a shaft to grind into the oil pump housing. Ernie dressed that up before I go a picture of it. The gearbox was opened and repair by someone else before. Obviously wrong as there were all kinds of proceedural errors that are definately not Ferrari. This box was so blowd up that parts froze in the gearbox. Now the fun begins. Usually, the GB comes apart with simple hand tools. If things are frozen it gets tricky.

Here is Ernie grinding a punch to the proper size so that the peened part of the lock ring can be removed. Don't be afraid to destroy (or make) some tools to work on these cars. I've got untold number of now special Ferrari tools.

So everything comes apart just fine except there is this frozen race stuck on the shaft due to overheating and failure of the race and balls. There is no way to get it off so the unknown mechanic is grinding a slot in it so it can be pulled off with a puller.

I nominate FBB for the title of "Ferrari Survivalist of the Year!"

He makes his own tools, and he makes his own bushings. I'm not worthy...

This is going to be a great thread, though! I learn something new just about everyday on this chat forum.
