We are aware of the proper spelling of each word. There wouldn't be a point to this post, otherwise.

"Orientated" is the correct British English (you know, the language as it's meant to be). "Oriented" is the sloppy American contraction.

    "Ya'll" ? I guess you meant to say "Y'all" ?

Yet another sloppy American contraction - two words for the price of one, eh ? ;) :D

I met a guy yesterday who works at a wild animal recovery shelter. He was talking about a malnourished tiger that had kittens. They were surprised because she was so skinny from being malnourished that they didn't know she was pregnant. He kept saying how "emancipated" she looked.

A couple of my gnat bites:
Using "loose" when the poster means "lose".
The correct contraction of "you all" (y'all not ya'll) has already been mentioned.

It's amazing to see some of the recurring simple mistakes made by supposedly college educated people. I wonder if text messaging has something to do with this trait.

Well, if it were a 'trait' it would have to be genetic as opposed to condition-based behavior ;)

I am so glad this stuff bugs other people too.

Confusing "its" and "it's" drives me mad, along with the whole "there/their/they're" abomination.

And without pointing fingers, pluralising something doesn't require an apostrophe: e.g. if you want to tell "joke's," the joke's on you! :p

Before you call me on the spelling of "pluralising" note that I am living in a former British colony and have an English wife. I have succumbed to the "s" for "z" transposition, but I refuse to insert an extraneous "u" in such words as humor. :p

And even though "disorientated" is common British usage I still hate it!

There are other definitions of 'trait' than the genetic based. :)

Functional illiteracy has been around long before text messaging - though this new abbreviated form of communication certainly isn't help matters...
