I have to respectfully disagree with you on some points you made. My experience is with Japanese modified cars. My specialty to date is the 1993-98 Supra. I, and many of my customers, have spent "enough to own a Ferrari" on the Supra to make it into their dream car. For my money I have a car that is a king of the American highways and very competitive on the drag strip and the circuit courses.

I have brakes from the Ferrari F50 adapted to fit front & rear, I have the best suspension possible, and a beautifully custom interior with a stereo that replicates every sound as close to being in person as possible. And then there is the acceleration and top speed. In 6 years I have never been beat on the highway. I have raced every car and bike I can find that wants to race. Yes, I said bike. I have taken down the fastest bikes on the road including the Yamaha R1, Hyabusa, and the GXR's. I have spent over $100,000 USD on it and do not regret it.

Who cares if at the end of the day my car is "just a Toyota"? As long as I enjoy it and get my money out of it why look down on it?

What this guy did to the Fiero is sad and a disgrace to the word Ferrari, I agree. I can't stand the "rice" that a lot of Civic owners (etc.) put on their Japanese cars, it is embarrasing to me. But in terms of the VW, if they put tens of thousands of dollars into it and enjoy it, I do not see the problem with it. As long as something is done with SOME taste and not a rip-off of another car, then why does it matter?

    Cheers,

    Dusty

I think most people would think its real, I mean look at those lines, and those doors wow. I think it is a steal at 80k.

But, I really mean, did he know in the middle of building it, it was going to be that bad or just as it was coming out of paint. Why did he keep going? Didnt his friends tell him to stop.

That windsheild just kills me though. What the hell was he thinking? I mean really?

Dusty why would you waste $100K on a supra? You want a 430 but drop 100K on a toyota. I dont understand.

    Waste? LOL!
I've owned it for 6+ years. I have just over $100K in it. I have been offered $80k and turned it down. I bought it with 84,000 miles on it and it currently has over 170,000. So I have put almost 100,000 miles on it and I would be losing (give or take) $25,000 if I sold it. Can you say that about any Ferrari?

I get to drive the heck out of a car that is faster than virtually anything on the street. It stops better than virtually any car, and it handles better than virtually any car. Only 7,000 Twin Turbo Supras exist in all of North America. It is more rare than a Ferrari.

I drive the car all I want to without fear of depreciation. I wonder what a 360 with 170K+ miles would be worth? Or better yet, I wonder how much someone would have lost in depreciation had they bought it for the same amount I have in my Supra (give or take $110k). Think they could sell it for $80k+ if they put 100,000 miles on it?

However, to more directly answer your question...
I "wasted" over $100,000 on a Toyota because I specialize in Supras for a living. I sell more Supra performance parts than anyone in North America. I own the largest Supra forum website in the world - SupraForums.com. Would you want to buy your performance parts for your Ferrari from someone who owned and drove a Sunfire or Civic? Probably not. You likely would want to do business with someone who owns a Ferrari, preferably the same model as you. Someone that drives it, works on it, and can answer your questions due to tons and tons of personal knowledge. I test dozens of aftermarket parts for the Supra and I give the Supra community "hard" and accurate facts as well as a slew of opinions. The only way to test them is to have them on my Supras and drive them, truly experience them.

So, I "wasted" over $100,000 on a Toyota so I could provide true information to the Supra community and earn its trust as a knowledgable source in the community. It has made me a good living and is partially responsible for my ability to now own a 360 and work towards future goals (i.e. 430 and beyond). In fact, if things go well, I will have a 360 delivered to me next Friday (6 days and counting!!).

I will be doing the exact same thing with the 360. I will be able to provide this community with information and ideas that others have not, all because I own one and drive one.

    Regards,

    Dusty

I would think for the buy it now price they could throw in the 8 Cylinder Crapola engine for free.

A bit defensive. You should just say that it is your money & your car to do with as you want (which is true).

Have fun and enjoy your Supra AND your 360.

Thanks Zertec. I feel saying "its my money and I do what I want with it" is a bit snippy. I simply do not like someone saying I wasted my money on a Toyota just because he would not choose to spend his money in such a way. Thus, I explained myself in great detail as to why I have spent that kind of money. I am not trying to come across harsh, only fully explain the reasoning behind my decision. I got defensive because of his choice of words, which I felt were a little cruel and unprovoked.

In less than a week I will have a Ferrari AND a brutally fast Jap Crap Supra. To say I am looking forward to it would be an understatement. :)

    Kind regards,

    Dusty
