EnigmaSRT4, Do you, for one minute, actually believe that the evo's and supras are the pinnacle of automotive performance development? If yes, I might gently recommend therapy. Most anything, including ricer-fart-cans, can be made faster than their original intended purpose with the introduction of $$$. The evo that you have cited in the first video link, has a base price of 47,000 GBP, that's $81,467.00 US. Anybody could find just about any little turd of a car, put an extra $60K to $65K into it and have an amazingly fast little turd, no suprise. Not being able to make it fast, after spending that much, would be a surprise, no, downright laughable. Put that extra $60,000 of performance into any car, not just the turds, and you should gain a large amount of giddyap.
What the hell is your point in all this? Why are you posting? We all know with enough money any car YES ANY car can be made fast. I've owned Ferraris and I've RACED Ferraris (not street racing but real racing) and I've also owned Honda's and also RACED them too (again on a race track not the street). What's your point in all this ??? I don't really care what you drive. I've seen 700 + horsepower Supras destroy everything in a straight line but what does that prove............you've got a lot of money and you have the immense skill to depress an accelerator pedal all the way to the floor....whoooooo you're now on Toyota's short list to replace Ralph Schumacher. Yes I street raced long ago, but grew up and took it to the track where you actually have to learn something besides depressing an accelerator pedal and "..how much will it cost for another 1/2 second." I also fail to understand why people want to gloat that their tuned Supra which they spent an additonal $25,000 on top of what the car cost them can beat a 360 Ferrari. Let's see you bought the car for $25,000 and then spent another $25,000 to make it fast. Well whoppi-di-doo. If the same Ferrari owner got to double the price of his 360 from $150,000 to say $300,000 I guarantee you it would put out the same or more hp and be faster. Who do you think would win a contest between a 1300 hp Norwood Testarossa and a tuned Supra? What's you point in comparing tuned cars to stock cars. I've seen 10 second Honda CRX's that have 1/4 mile trap speeds in the 135 mph range but gee I don't think I could ever get date in one. Lastly, why do you want denegrate people over how they modify or treat their car. Why called them "ricers". Because they drive cars that aren't fast, fast for whom, you????? I race a Honda that has all of 140 hp to the wheels on a good day I'd be willing to bet I'd utterly destroy your SRT4 at any race track of your choosing. A fast car doesn't make a fast driver, but a fast driver can make any car FAST!! I don't have a clue why anyone would install some of the hideous looking body kit on their Honda or Toyota. I also don't have a clue why they want a wing on the car when the car can't generate any downforce, but who cares what I think. They have a car and they want to modify it. They likely don't have much money to make it fast so what's the next best thing. A nice stereo and some add ons (intake, exhaust, wheels ....). And those who do have money can build some pretty damn fast cars out of a $10,000 Honda commuter car. What are you bragging for??? It likely took Dodge millions in development costs to squeeze that measly 245 hp out of your car but some kid in East La spent a few thousand to make a swapped Civic that makes 400 wheel hp. I am likely the only person on this forum who can relate to both a Honda and a Ferrari and I don't think one is better than the other just because I paid $100,000 more for one over the other. Get a grip !!! Regards, Jon Kofod www.flatoutracing.net
Why not street race? Because the kind of moron who would pull up on the freeway and want to race is already in over his head just being behind the wheel. Should we say goodbye to Mr. Neon driver?
Two posts, and they're getting progessively more nonsensical. Give him one more post. If it's the same stuff, bury him.
Ain't that the truth! a good example comes to mind, is the porsche 914, underpowered, but in the right hands can crank up some nice times I have nothing against ppl that mod their cars, even if some look bad for my taste, but who cares its their car. The attitude is what bugs me, and how they harras you on the streets. I personally like factory tuned cars, and not do anything to it, just leave it the way it is. Dodge Srt4, 190E 16v, Mustang GT, 360 CS... etc. My interest in a car is not as much the performance, but more in the engineering.... which itself translate into perfromance. To me when you buy a car, you buy somebody's work of art. Every part has its purpose, and probably each piece has a story to tell. my .02 cheers, George EDIT: oh another favourite Mercedes 6.9 *..drools..* anybody got an extra one that they don't want. i'll gladly take it... even though the maintenace bill will ruin me LOL
My Supra. :-D Sorry...couldn't resist that one, just too much of a setup to ignore. Regards, Dusty P.S. Bob Norwood taught us the beginning levels of Motec ECU tuning that we applied to my 8.1 second (1/4 mile) Supra.
If you are a true auto enthusiast you will acknowledge and respect other car guys and what they drive reagrdless of the marque or country of orgin. I enjoy all cars in the hobby and respect the choices other people make as to what they want to or can afford to spend their time, energy and money on...its good for all of us to support fellow car junkies whether it is a Ferrari or a Honda. Plus, beware if you think your high line car can run with some of what you refer to as "ricers" or you may just get surprised and be looking at that so called "fart can" getting smaller in the distance as it pulls away from you.
I like cars, to me the badge in front of the car doesn't matter. If a company makes a good car then I'll buy it. To me flexing my ego on an internet forum is silly, I prefer to get embarassed on the race track/autox venue. So if you think you are the next Alonso or Gordon or Wheldon please do come down and show us why Dodge hasn't yet called you to run their Viper Comp Coupes in SWC GT.
Jon, Why don't you tell him about the time those punk kids were tearing it up in your neighbourhood in that Honda with the giant wing in the back? That was frigging HILARIOUS! Truly funnny.
Last night on the way home from dinner at my parents' home, I drove by some kid in a light blue blinged ricer with the big wing who had apparently taken a right hand turn a little too fast and the car drifted left and onto the concrete center curb, which left his car completely immobilized (thank you) as the car was completely hung up on the curb and all four wheels off the ground. Couldn't help but laugh as this sort of stuff goes on all the time near my house. His front left wheel appeared to be a bit askew, and this morning, when I drove by the site on the way to work, there was quite a bit of scarring to the concrete curb. I love all types of cars and the imports are pretty cool, just as early Camaros and Mustangs are to me, because the technology is fascinating. BUT, there are speed parts and then there are poseur parts........... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Searched the archives couldn't find it. In a nutshell I was out walking my dogs one day when some kids flew down the street in a Honda S2000 with a big wing on it. I yelled at them to slow down and they made some disparing remarks about me (something about me driving a minivan and their car being fast). I told them wait up a minute. I ran back to the house, jumped in the 355 Challenge and exited the subdivision and pulled up next to them on the side street. I rev'd the engine to about 8000 rpm (not a good idea on a cold engine) and watched them stare in disbelief when I told them something to the effect of "...that kiddies is a real f*ckin wing.." I'll never forget the kids look on his face. Jon
First of all, I *love* Jon Kofod's awesome post. Second, driving at the limit (let alone racing) is for the track, not for the street. Third, there're "ricers" who have all show (stickers, wings, fart cans) and no go (mods that actually slow the car down relative to stock in addition to making it look ridiculous). Then there's an actual import scene with cars like the WRX, the Evo, the Supra and the Skyline. Don't confuse the two. Fourth, cars like the SRT-4 are "domestic" (as in American domestic) and sure, they're fast, but a lot of hardcore musclecar fans still look down on them as four-bangers, which they (inexplicably) associate with the hated "rice" imports. Personally, I respect the SRT-4 for its straight line speed, but a FWD circuit car ? PLEASE !! Oh, and RACING IS FOR THE TRACK, NOT THE STREET. 'Nuff said.
Perhaps you missed the rear side window plastered with them? Anyways, the majority of "ricers" i encounter don't have many stickers, but generally have a primered fiberglass bumper or rediculous aluminum wing, along with the fart can muffler or sometimes no muffler at all! IMO, there's nothing wrong with import cars coming from any country or domestic econoboxes like the Neon. They're generally decent commuter cars when left alone, but it's the tacky things people do to them.
