RnR Storage has been a great place for car storage at the South end of S.F. Bay in Milpitas. They charge 125/mo for cars under 15ft long with a prepayment discount available.
    Here is their info.

Does anyone have a recommendation for storage near S.F. airport?
    Thanks,

Actually, I'd like to ask the same. If anyone knows of an industrial type of space where I can get ~1500 sq ft to work on cars, keep some, install a lift, etc. I'd be happy to talk to the owners. Whatever works. I'd be willing to pay for a lift, etc.

    --Dan

Forgot to add, I'm in Hillsborough, so anywhere in San Mateo, Burlingame, even as far as SFO would work.

Dan - I've been shopping around for shop space as well. Thing is, I'm down here in Santa Clara. The shop spaces down I'm looking for are insulated, have office space and level parking outside (e.g. for trailers). Would you look as far down as Sunnyvale-Santa Clara area?

Sunnyvale and Santa Clara is too far for me. I had an offer for space (as much as I wanted up to 5k sq ft) in Sunnyvale and passed. I can see if it's still available (this was over 6 months ago), if you'd like?

How much were they asking for the space in Sunnyvale up to 5K sq ft? U know if they allowed washing the car there also?

Dan, please do ask. They must be friendly to the auto shop idea though. I won't be running a business, but I do intend on working on my own cars, and will put in a lift. Thanks, Dan. (you also have PM)

    guys....
the space next to dino motors in san mateo is up for grabs. I know of one fchatter who almost went for it. think about it.....an advisor next door. i would actually consider putting some skin in this game, if it means storage/lift benefits....a group shop, our own little candy store....

Luke, that sounds great. Are you willing to swing by to find out the agent for the property? Will need to know its price/sq.ft., complex fees, etc.

San Mateo is a hike for me though. Could you do Mountain View?

....the attraction for me is the mechanic next door (although I know that you are no slouch when it comes to fixing and tuning).
There is actually a little club run by this semi-retired M&A guy in Belmont. He has got 15 cars there, cool memorabilia, but they keep a low profile due to the expensive iron....also more focused on the vintage Italian stuff than modern exotics.
MV is a little far. I have the same lazy gene as Dan. But post back or call if you find something specific....At the very least I can get you a consult on lease terms and usual gotchas from someone who just went through the same.

Luke - please find out on both the space next to Dino as well as the small group (if they are willing)?

I figure there's gotta be a ton of space on Industrial ave in san mateo which would be open to this. I've got to call Geoff Provo too, I just keep forgetting.

If we're not making much headway I might just go drive up and down Industrial / Railroad in SC/Belmont and SM/Burlingame and just start asking people.

    Luke -

Well, those genes didn't miss me my friend! I'd rather not have to go home after work (15 mins), have dinner, then run off again to San Mateo (30 mins door to door is my estimate) before I can "play" with my toys. Still, if the deal is good and my co-renters are of the same ilk, I might be willing to make some sacrifices :)

I'll e-mail or call you when I get back stateside. I'm fairly serious about all this. I need more room to store my delicate Italian toys!

Place in San Mateo is about 3800 sq ft. He's asking 815K cash, FSBO. Probably needs $50K in structural and upgrades (as do most buildings on the peninsula), but is sprinklered.

Cheapest I've found on the peninsula is a place off industrial road for 50 cents industrial gross in San Carlos.

Avg price per sq ft lease in San Carlos for a decent space is about 85 cents.
Avg price per sq ft lease in Burlingame for a decent space is about $1.00 and up.

After looking for 2 years up and down the peninsula, I can say this - there's not many places on the peninsula that I'd consider putting a collector car. Many buildings are quite old, and have few seismic retrofits. I advise you keep an eye out for the structual condition of the building before leasing, and do your own phase 1 environmentals before buying.

    Hope this helps.

Very interesting indeed. Thanks for the info. I might hit you up for details. BTW, would you be in on something like this?

Tom - wouldn't car insurance cover a lot of these things?

Why don't you guys get a hanger at San Carlos or Palo Alto. Usually about 40 x 40, and under 500/month, so you can afford to fix them up.

Well, yes. As you can guess, sometimes it's not about the money - some older cars are just plain difficult to replace. But your point is true, at the end of the day, it's just a car.

I myself have a deal going on another space - I passed on the San Mateo space because it was just too small for what I really needed/wanted. If my current deal falls through, I'd certainly consider getting involved with others. The hanger sounds like a good option, but I thought there was a big waiting list at San Carlos Airport. Perhaps I am mistaken.

Art: getting hanger space at San Carlos will take a long time. There is indeed quite a list, and I don't have any strings to pull there.

I spoke with Geoff Provo today, and he said he honestly just drove around looking and tlaking to people - brokers were useless, etc. Of course he's got a business to run whereas this would be private, but nevertheless, it definitely puts things in perspective.

Ok, so that being said, I'll try talking with Dale/Brandon tonight and see if they have any ideas.

Just to get a headcount - Nizam, myself, Luke - anyone else? I figure about 1000-1500 sqft/person is right?
