100k Gallardo

What's your best guess as to how long it'll be before these cars are priced at 100k?

 

Not sure, I would say maybe 2 years from now or a little longer. But that wont be for a low miles car, that would be if Lamborghini stops producing so many.

 

When is the replacement model coming out? I have not heard of any plans to replace Gallardo in 2007, so the earliest must be 2008 or later.

It is hard to see a 2004 Gallardo selling for $100k when the new ones are going for $200k and prices on the new MY are consistently going up. The huge spike in MY 05 prices really helped the 04 market firm up.

So I will guess that it will be 2 years until you see some 2004 Gallardos at $100k

 

When the '07's begin to land.

 

I'd be surprised if the '07 MY cars will drive down the prices much, as with the '05 and '06 cars, the 04 prices haven't dropped in relation to anything but the market - Lambo did a pretty good job bumping the price of the G-car every year to prevent that Porsche-esque immediate depreciation based on model year. If they keep the trend going, the bump on '07 shouldn't hurt the 04 prices too much, rather miles and the expiration of warranty should create the major drop, then expect more 'standard' depreciation until a new model is released.

 

There seem to be a pressing pleasure, maybe even excitement coming out of people who "demean" the Gallardo, especially from those who either want one but can't really afford it now or from those (at least on this board) who own an F car and get some pleasure in constantly down-talking Lambo's. When I was one of the first ones on this board with a 360 back in 2000, I noticed the same criticism and doomsday predictions for the 360. Truth was somehow different. The G will not be much different. The difference is the huge discounts the 04's were subjected to mainly because of Lambo's market status, now quickly changing. I paid $156K (MSRP $186K) for my NEW 04 6sp with all the options available and I do not think it will be worth less than $125K in 06-07. The real "hit" was taken by Lambo and their dealers when the 04's were being sold. This could have been their own miscalculations or, who knows, maybe their secret intention just to get the car going. I was at my dealer's yesterday and the 05 car situation is very different from the 04's. 06 cars will be even easier to sell (fewer cars and better informed buyers).

 

Exactly. I don't know why people can't comprehend this. I would say your car would be closer to 135 but even at 125, 30k for a two year old exotic is damn good. The 360 is in a class by itself for holding its value but the Lambo in relation to the used car market does just fine. If the Gallardo is at 100, what does that put the 348 at?

 

I did not mean my 04 is worth 125K now but I was talking about a year or 18 months from now. An old friend of mine was willing to pay $145K for mine (2K miles), he ended up buying an 03 360F1 with 4K miles for the same amount. This tells me things are not what they seem, certainly on this biased forum.

 

my crystal ball is cloudy on the future price discovery of the g's but if it was awfully tempting to jump all over roy's black gallardo recently sold in the low 130's......

frankly, if capacity isn't a subject of doubt, i'd have strongly considered ricardo's silver g's (richard wallace). sweeeet ride and knowing ricardo, that car is all he sais and more.....

 

I'd be very surprised if the gallardo runs at any where near a hundred grand in the near future. (next few years)

JMO but its still a very high demand car.

 

If you see a 100k G car...it will be a "story" car. It ain't happening. Unless the mileage is high.....or some other issue. Lambo is doing the right thing, raising the prices on new models. They learned after alot of years. You could buy a 99SV for about the same price as a '91 Diablo. They should have raised the prices every year, and you would have never seen sub 100k Diablos.

I think as others have said it will be a few years before we see an average price for the older G's at 100K - there is too much of the competition that will keep it up. If you figure a 99 360 is still around 100K - a G car 6 years newer, thousands less cars made of the G, better performance, etc. The price will hit a point and stabalize. I had 2 offers on my G thus far at around 138 - which is still a little low for what I want to sell it by a few thousand dollars.

I think when we see the hype of the spyder, etc. the price will level a little. I think you will see a few higher miles (relative) go in the lower 130's - but most retail out there is still in the high 140's and low 150's. As warranties expire, etc. this will bring it down a little...

I have to say if the average price does go down to 120's - 130's consitently - any of you that want a bullet proof car - this is a huge deal for the Gallardo... for that type of money you will be hard pressed to find an exotic that has so little maintenance requirements, speed/performance for that kind of money...

I also think once you get the numbers down to the 120's - you are now dipping into the porsche market (TT) - you will get many people look up for lambo's and ferrari's - noted by many of our newer members / first time owners that have come over to ferrari or lambo in the past year based on the lower point of entry for the 355, 360 and a few Gallardos..

But 1 year into ownership of the G - I have to say that this is by far the best overall exotic, low maintenance, etc. etc. Car I have ever owned - and has been less hassle free than my new Jag or BMW (from an issue standpoint)...

You have to remember the price will only drop so low. Take the Carrera GT for example at the rate it is depreciating we should be be having the "i'll buy one when it hits $200k" discussion. But we cant because when they start hitting $325,000 the market will chew them up. Now your getting the choice between a 1000 mile 430 spider or 500 mile carrera GT? thats a no brainer. I think the gallardo market will bottom out in the mid 120's and the "story" or really high milage out of warranty cars will be in the high teens. I think it will be a long time before you see them around 100k. you cant even get a 97 diablo for 100k, why would the gallardo drop below that? When you start entering other markets more people will buy it. At 125k viper owners or even new Z06 owners can start looking into the extra $30k for the lambo vs a chevy or dodge.

The real deals I think will be the high milage cars, unlike the ferrari taboo about high milage, reliability, and major services. There is no real fear in putting milage on a gallardo. There is no major service or miracle mileage to try and avoid to maintain fair market value. The cars are also very reliable and awd so you'll see more frequent use out of them all year round. So expect 40-50k mile cars out there in a year or two.

 

They better hold steady then. Here is one with 8K miles that sold for 130K already.

in the UK at least no one in the trade is interested in a Gallardo sh. The main dealers dont want the car.

Ive just sold my 04 car for the best offer I could get in the trade which was £47K less than when new.
The car is a residual disaster.

Sorry to hear that. Two questions:

1. Did you buy the car at sticker? Most of the purchasers towards the back-end of the MY04 cycle picked up the car $20K - $25K back of sticker. One member on this board got his for $31K off of sticker. I assume you were an early buyer?

2. Why did you want to sell now? Is it to get into another car, or because you don't think the slide will stop. Many think that while the initial depreciation was steep, the depreciation cycle has actually leveled out and that the cars have at most a $7k - $10k depreciation hit per year.

 

If Lamborghini would only increase the warranty to 3 years it would help to keep the prices of used Gallardos more stable. It really does not look like they would be risking too much since the car seems to be very reliable.

 

I bought the vehicle 6 months old- had i have bought it new the loss would have been far greater!

I have got out now for several reasons;

1, the car will soon be out of warranty and it was not the most reliable ive owned!

2. a new V8 version is comming out which i think will dilute the brand even more.

3.so many new models from other manufacturers competing for the same niche market means- in my opinion that the values have anything like 'levelled off'

In the UK you have a situation where the dealers ask £98K for the car but they are bidding £75K or less.

There are people ( i wasone of them) that believed I was driving a car worth say 95K but all i can say is ring the dealers and see if they will even bid on the car.

The debate rages on about MY06 being a better car and less being made to support residuals but this is at a time when a mass of new product is comming to market.

As good as the car is- for this reason I would not buy one again

 

I accept losing money on any car, but the depreciation on the G is breathtaking, wholey unreasonable, a bit hard to explain, but real nontheless. Lambo needs to rethink the pricing on these cars, as another year or two of this type of depreciation will help kill the brand. I believe it is a better car than the F430, but until the marketplace values it as such, Lambo can't charge the same money for it. There are only so many buyers around for this type of car, and eventually the prices of used ones tell everyone that they would be a fool to buy a new one. Don't buy an overpriced new G (even though it is a fantastic car), put your money into a good used Murcielago. You will be a lot happier for it.

 

I just sold mine today '04 and 6 speed manual with little over 6,000 miles $144,000. Sticker was a little over $180,000 but I paid for it new 156,000.

Easier to sell? Dealers are going to have a hard time getting anything close to MSRP from well informed buyers...

 

Compared to a Ferrari, Mercedes or BMW V12 this is nothing!!
Add to that list Bentley, Jaguar and Audi. Yes I know I am generalising, but 20-30% depreciation is nothing compared to some of these babies!!
