I cannot understand how some people can be in such denial over an ANIMAL!!! The pitbull is a dangerous animal which is the result of years of inbreeding to create a fighting dog!! That is what the pitbull was bread for..DOG FIGHTS. It was for this reason, and this reason only..not to keep as a pet!

But now because some punk ass wants to appear tough and "gangster" he goes and buys a dangerous dog to inflate his already fragile ego.

There is a reason why the Canadian government banned the dog here in Canada (well at least Ontario). There are also some states (Colorado I think) also have banned the breed. Is this all because of bad owners? Is this all because of a few dogs bites? NO!! Its because the dogs are nothing but worthless animals who attract so called "bad boys". Look at how the average owner of the bitbull looks!! They usualy have that tough guy look to them with the gotee and tatoo's and studed collars.

I was bitten by one of these animals, who's owner is still to this day a close friend of mine. He swore to me up and down that pitbulls were fine when I challenged him about his purchase. I knew the dog since it was a pup, and it was always kind towards me. Then one day it attacked me, thank god I had a thick leather jacket on, else my arm would have been mangled. He had the dog destroyed the next day.

Don't you dare tell me that its just bad owners, because I know for a fact that that dog was loved and correctly trained. The thing just went nuts.

My view..put a bullet in everyone of them.

In this case the gun is a useful tool in removing a pest from the face of the earth...Don't get me wrong..I love dogs and I always will..but this animal is a man made killing machine. It is not a wild animal that nature built like a Tiger or Lion or whatever. This animal is not to be trusted or had as a pet. But people are just too damn blind to see it.

As for gun control..sure we need controls on guns... I really don;t see the need for an individual to beable to own an anti-tank gun..just because they want it. Same with the Pitbull..this is a dog that is no longer required..get rid of them.

 

Some don't understand why some people like yourself can be so sure an animal is bad when you have no experience with them. I for one have been the victim of a dog bite on my face that required reconstructive surgery 280 stitches from a golden retrever. One of America's favorite breeds. You get all worked up when you don't know the facts. For many years Pitbulls were one of the most respected breeds. Thomas Edison had one. Teddy Rosevelt had one. The little rascals dog was a pitbull for gosh sake. Around tons of kids. I agree that the breed has been improperly bred over the years. We should get rid of all the bad breeders out there instead of the dog. Years ago the doberman used to be the talked about dog. Now the pitbull. Statisticly they are not even close to accounting for the most bites. Pitbulls have been bred for fighting other dogs and are very aggressive towards other dogs if not socialized correctly. But they do not show aggresion towards humans for the most part, and if they do the dog should not be bred so we end up destroying the bad traits in this breed and probagating the good ones by breeding loving ones.

Why do you think they put the word PIT in front of Bull? Could it quite possiably have a somthing to do with where these dogs fought? In a fighting PIT? Which is what they were bread for?

No Genius, that is not the reason that I feel these dogs are dangerous, as much as you'd like to think that you had some kind of "brilliant moment". I have been involved in a grass roots effort to ban these dogs in my community since 2000. My daughter was bit in 2005. How many stories are there of German Shepherds MAULING people? Biting, yes of course as this breed is a little bit more on the aggressive side than some others but nowhere near on the same plane as Pits and Rotts. Now why don't you and DB8LA or whatever his name is jump in your gun rack equipped pick up and go take your Pits down to the local fightin' club along with your 12 pack of Pabst and have a good old time! Maybe you could have your Pit bite off your tether so "The Man" won't know where you've been. BTW, I would keep that "poodle bite" to myself if you want to retain any amount of dignity.

 

This was not a source of "statistics" Einstein, I was merely pointing out a couple of examples of these POS dogs turning on people. I beg you to cite me stories of other breeds MAULING or killing people. For every one that you find, I'll find 20 stories of Pits and/or Rotts doing the same. Statistics speak for themselves. Other breeds occasionally bite, Pits and Rotts want to kill.

 

I think ALL big dogs should be banned from city limits and urban centers. There is no reason at all to keep a hunting dog/protection dog/fighting breed in the city.

While I agree that the dog 99% of the time reflects the owner, however we just can't trust people to take proper care of these specialised dogs and licensing owners will be another bureaucratic boondoggle. The only dogs that should be allowed are those that would not be able to cause much if any harm even if totally mis-trained.

There is a good reason it is illigal to say keep tigers as pets. No matter how good the owner, accidents will happen, and when they do, they will be spectacular.

We had a case in Russia like that. A famous family of tiger trainers from the circus kept tigers and lions in their appartment. Nothing happened for 20 years. One day, half the family got wiped out.

People, use your gaddamned common sense. Pit Bulls and Rotweillers should not be permitted in the cities. And yes, I am a dog/cat lover.

 

I had a Chow once, man I hated that dog. It was a freakin' barking machine, never stopped barking, ever, and it liked to bite people also. Damn retarded dog. I cheerfully gave that damn dog a one way trip to the vet.

 

If you must have a decent size, fairly aggressive dog you must get one of these. Excellent with family and kids, but keep them far away from other dogs. When the boxer down the street kept dumping in my yard after repeated warnings to the owners I let my dobe out the front door to scare him off. It didn't quite work out that way. After chewing off half of an ear and giving the boxer numerous stitches and staples I had to run out and pull her off. I honestly didn't think it would be that bad. No more crap on the lawn though.

Wow, your dog also stitches and staples the other dog's wounds when she's done chewing on him? That's one stop shopping for sure! ;-)

But seriously, I think the owner has a huge amount to do with a dog's behaivior. There certainly are gentle Doberman's (my uncle had one) and viscous retrievers.

But I'm afraid there's no way anyone can convince me certain breeds don't have the tendancy towards a certain behaivior than others. If traits aren't inherent to the breed, then why don't more poodles go duck hunting? I'm not being a smarta$$, that's just something that came to mind. But obviously not ALL dogs of the same breed share all the same traits.

FWIW, here's our mutt. (well, if I can get the pic to showup that is...) Got him from a rescue org. He's proof positive that certain traits aren't universal to a breed - he doesn't like water and won't retrieve to save his life. But we love him cuz he's got a great personality...

You just keep sounding more and more like a moron. What the hell kind of proof do you want other than the fact that Pits and Rotts are the #1 biter of humans and #1 for fatal attacks? Please answer MY question, do you see communities banning these other breeds? I say to you again, the stats speak for themselves. Here you go:
Rottweilers and Pit Bulls were involved in 60 percent of the 27 dog bite fatalities that occurred in 1997 and 1998. Rottweilers were involved in 10 deaths, and Pit Bulls were involved in 6.

From the Center for Disease control:
From 1979 through 1998, at least 25 breeds of dogs have been involved in 238 human dog bite related deaths. Pit Bulls and Rottweilers were involved in more than 50 percent of these deaths.

Now from the American Society of Plastic surgeons:
"While any dog can bite, the top biting breeds include: Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, German Shepherds, Huskies, Doberman Pinschers, Chow Chows, Great Danes, St. Bernards and Akitas."

As for mean dogs, most every pitbull owner I have know have the most lovable dogs on earth. It's the jerks that raise the mean dogs and it's really sad. I live in an area where there are plenty of trailer-trash scumbag low lifes who own pitbulls and most all are nasty dogs, just like their owners.

Okay, lets talk stats and the theory of large numbers. (still waiting for the scientific proof that dogs can be wired to kill) I remember you saying " statistics can be spun and misinterpreted by anyone. I should know my wife is a medical/legal professional" something like that. But hey your words are still empty and meaningless, but I'll still play.

This WORTHLESS Rottweiler was one of the first search and rescue dogs at the World Trade Center after 9/11. It recovered 6 bodies and a multitude of body parts before it was removed from the wreckage for exhaustion and some say depression. The dog now works as a treatment dog at the Children's Hospital in OK. ("Rescue dog exhibits signs of depression" NYtimes 9/27/2001)

This cute little rascal is a Pomeranian and was responsible for the October 2000 killing of a 6 week old baby. The average weight of a Pomeranian is about 4 pounds, and they are not thought of as a dangerous breed. Note, however, that they were bred to be watchdogs! The baby's uncle left the infant and the dog on a bed while the uncle prepared her bottle in the kitchen. Upon his return, the dog was mauling the baby, who died shortly afterwards. You should know better than that.. at this point he'll probably claim that the Rot actually killed the people it supposedly "recovered".

I don't drink Pabst, I didn't rescue my dog to bolster my street credability, and I don't put him in positions where the outcome isn't certain. He's not trained to kill, I walk him at night and he's never off a leash aside from the backyard where there are three (!) gates blocking his access to the outside world. There are no kids in the house and he's locked up when they come over only because he's knocked over a few adults in his time, kids simply don't have the strength required if they want to "play" with him.

So why do I have to put a bullet in his head again?

Same here. I didn't know I lived in Podunk Redneck Ville and needed a shotgun rack for my my track car! I like living in my gated community in Newport Coast, CA with my beautiful wife, 2 kids and 2 rotties.

 

I dont know a great deal about these breeds but i do know that in the UK there have been a lot of attacks by pitbulls, the pitbull is now banned here, any that are found are destroyed and the owners heavily fined and in some cases jailed.
