Gordon congrats! Looks a fun little project. Not a big deal. How was the motor and everything else? Also, anymore pics? Oh and umm.....any pics of your wife's hot friend? LOL kidding (no really, any?) Hope your wife doesnt read f-chat. All the best to you and your new car. Hope the weather clears soon Vasco
I have an ML, E class, and a Ferrari F355 spider also (brothers from another mother?) and definitely think the ML is the one for this weather!!!!!! I currently have Pirelli Scorpion Ice/Snow tires and they are excellent!!!! Much better than the all seasons that came on it and my summer 18 inchers on AMG wheels.
Gordon, Congrats on finding the right car and getting it fixed up the way you want it. I've enjoyed following your posts and your adventure- it's just a shame the snow arrives the day your car does... but don't worry, f-cars don't melt when wet, just be careful of that nasty salt thet use in the midwest. At least you're one step closer to being able to hear the sweet sounds of near-red-line shifts; you'll be smiling wider than ever. Regards, Eric
You must be my brother, as I have the exact same snow tires as well, and yes they are awesome!! We had a winterstorm last year that dumped like 12 inches overnight and shut down the highway... Only emergency vehicles were to be out and the highway was totally snow and ice covered... Well I had to declare my own emergency because It was time for a good hangover breakfast at Bob Evans. So my wife and my son took out the ML and had a blast as the only car on the interstate... Wouldnt you know it BOb Evans was packed and we had a great breakfast... gordon more to follow later.
Congratulations. Spiders are wonderful cars, and the folks at NJB are the best. Don't we always buy the best Christmas gifts for ourselves ?
Thanks for the nice congrats. Yes we always buy the best xmas gifts for ourself, but my wife has just informed me that she is going to see her jeweler tomorrow! It's not her fault though that diamonds are her birthstone...! gordon
Have to love Ohio winters... the snow came out of nowhere yesterday... today I took the car down the driveway and slide the whole way down... needless to say I'm parked in the street because I can't get back up the driveway yet. Beautiful 355, love the restoration pics and I hope to see your car one day. Enjoy
here are some some more pictures. Here are the seats refinished. They were previously dyed with laquer based or oil based dye that made them hard as a rock. The leather shop totally sanded the leather down and redyed them with the correct ferrari dye. Also they took out one bolster and repaired or replaced it and restitched everything. You cannot tell! Also they repaired a large tear in emergency brake. Total cost was around $800 for leather work. Also cleaned off overspray off seatbelts etc... Also a bunch of other pictures I took today. Engine got detailed, on one shot you can see the capristo exhast peek through, tires are Kumhos with 245 in front and 295 rear with 15 mm spacers front and rear, stebro straight pipes with bypass valve wired open. There is a picture of my other 2 cars and the wonderful snow we are having that is preventing me from getting crazy with my new toy! Hi Gordon, You did an amazing job on that 355, it's really gorgeous! What a difference. I hope you have an opportunity to get it out and use it now that it looks so pristine. We are having 80+ degree weather here in Florida. Just ship it down here (you'll be in time for the upcoming Cavillino at the Breakers) and you will really be able to drive that beauty.
Great story Gordon, & fantastic job on the restoration !! Car is reborn and looks incredible!!! Many happy miles ...................
thanks, yeah I may just have to ship it down to Florida to drive... I usually love snow close to christmas but this year I absolutely hate it! Our roads here are just smothered with salt, slush and liquid deicer which must all just be wonderful for the paint! gordon
Gordon - That was quite the project you undertook. Excellent work!! Congrats on your new baby ... and sorry about having to delay the caning that is about to begin!
Gordon, did you take a tally post all the restoration to determine how much you spent (relative to where you thought you would spend) and where that puts the "all in" cost relative to where you could have bought an "A" example of the car. Would be curious to know how much you ended up saving.
$800 bucks for all that leather work!? Wow, I need to find another leather worker. I was charged $200 to fix a small tear in my wife's Maserati. It good work, but it can't compare to your total seat restoration for $800! Tim
Need to take the wheels off and clean them, also clean the wheel wells while you are at it. Next you need to clean and dress the engine bay. That will basically get your car back to showroom condition, the interior looks great. I would also apply a good sealent to the paint!
