    Hello everyone. I have a 1999 F355 ( #19/100) I believe the cluthch is slipping. Give it gas, watch the R's go up but the car lags. Need some advice. Where's a good place to buy parts? Can I do this myself? If so, will I need allot of special tools? The Silicon Valley shop says $6,000 or more. Are they a rip off? Wow! I am not rich like the Yellow Spider might imply. Any advice on clutch repair would be greatly appreciated for sure. Or, are there any people or shops within a 100 mile radius Of the San Francisco bay area that would do this. Thanks.

    Standard trans (not F1)??. Probably just needs a $400 plate and a couple of hours labour. Some 348/355 owners have sent the plate away and have it re-lined, fit it themselves and have another 10 thousand miles trouble free for $300.

    To quote you 6k minimum is crazy. It might go big $ IF you need a new flywheel/release bearing etc but thats unlikely.

    Start by checking to see if there is any drips coming from the bottom of the clutch. If the triple seals are bad you will get the dripping. If the fluid gets on the clutch it will cause it to slip. I could also be a bad clutch slave cylinder seal, or that the seal on the flywheel is bad and the grease has been flung on the clutch.

    So, get the rear of the car in the air and then look for leaks. If you don't find any then remove the perforated inspection plate on the bottom of the clutch housing to look for grease inside. If all that checks out then you may need to get a new clutch, or take the old one and have it rebuilt.

    It is a job that you can do yourself.

    The throwout bearing probably went bad and leaked to cause the clutch to slip.you probably need to do a complete clutch job.Cammisa charges about 4000.00. Try Prancing Horse also,at 1390 Rollins Rd.in Burlingame.(650)558-8585.----Good luck.

    My very reputiable independant repair shop said that when (& if) my F-1 355 clutch goes, expect about a $3000 repair & no need to remove the engine.
