I am always amazed at the knowledge found on this site by it's users. Certain users just astound me with their knowledge of vintage Ferrari's. I have seen you guys disect a car's complete history just by one foto.

Here are some interesting foto's I came across from my beloved country of Portugal. As some of you know Portugal although a small country does have a great racing past and present with Ferrari and other great marques.

Would like to know if these cars are still in existance and where. Any additional info. These are old foto's taken off a great Portuguese enthusiast site. Sorry for the quality.

Some info I got for some of the photo's is the following:

-250LM Is #6119GT Raced at that time by Antonio Peixinho
-275GTB Raced by Aquiles De Brito
    -Dino 206S #024
    -David Piper in 412P #0854
-No. 25 Car 206 Dino S (Ex- Dean, De Cadinet and Walton)

Please feel free to ad info

Thanks for the comments guys. I read about all kinds of road corses all over Portugal that these great cars raced. They no longer exist I don't think.

I know there are a few important cars stahsed away and I wish I had more info on them.

    Cheers,

    v.

    Vasco,
Most of those pics are of races that I personnaly saw at vila Real, and other portuguese circuits. My first Vila Real was in 1969, with a six hours race with the best sports cars of that year...great race and motoring atmosphere!
Someone ask about the Lamborghini miura that Nicha Cabral raced in 1968. Well that was a road car not prepared for racing and it didn't finish a single race!
Do you know that people from Lamborghini were selling a lot of miuras to a small town in north of Portugal, those years, and they were very concerned because it was a so small town that couldn't be seen on the map!
Even today there are some guys collecting Ferrari and Lamborghinis in Portugal. I know someone with more than twenty sports cars (Ferrari, Lamborghini, porsche,...) in his garage in Felgueiras (north of Portugal).

Do you have anymore info you can share on this collector and any other's?? I live in Estoril in the summer and I am sure there are some collectors there too :)

    Ciao.

    Vasco,
I have a lot of pics and interesting stories about those marvellous years...the 60 and 70 were the best years of motor racing (IMO).
Try to look at http://sportscargt.com.sapo.pt/sumario.htm and then say something.

    Nuno.

That small town is called Vizela, located near Guimarães.
Back then, Lamborghini even sent a couple of ingeneers to see how a small town like that have the highest concentration of miuras in Europe...

Yes thank you! This is the site that inspired me to start this thread.

You are right. Those MUST have been the best years! I wish I was 20 years old back then!

Just curious. The 10th photo down in the first grouping. B&W of the #6 car.......The car following looks from that angle to be a Dino 206/246.
Since only a couple ever raced, is it more likely a Porsche 904 or something else entirely. Thoughts?

In case you are interested, there is an orange 1966 Lamborghini Miura for sale in a car dealer in Oporto right now...

Surely, there must be still some Miuras hidden in garages across the country. As far as I know, it used to be common seeing miuras & Isleros in the streets of Oporto during the 1960/70s...

Here are some pics I took of that Miura you're talking about. Its on a dealer in Porto, www.acvdo.net

I happen to know a (at that time...) girl, who had an Islero as a wedding gift from her father back in '68. She actually spoke with the engineers from Lamborghini, and she was offered a bronze bull...

    Great days...Great thread...!

    Thanks for the warm welcome!

I've been a regular reader since last year, but now "With a litle help from my friends" Carlos and Nuno, I posted. And, of course, "our Portugal", tiny as it is, has a heart as big as the World and push us as far as needed...!
