I have the full size spare in front. That may be the difference.

One thing that has not yet been mentionned is that the front end of the car in the auction (and the red one pictured) is that they are Euro QV cars. Most people do not notice that there is a difference between the Euro front on a QV and the Euro front on the older cars. These are the differences:

    Front Spoiler:

    - Both the Euro early deep and QV spoilers are the same depth but the QV adds the oval vents just above where the spoiler changes direction.

    Front Grill / Emblem:

    - The QV front grill has 4 horizontal slats compared to 3 on the older cars
    - The QV has the horse on the grill and it should be flat. A lot of these have been lost or stolen and replaced with the incorrect 3D horse

    Bumper:

    - the QV bumper is considerably thinner than the Euro non QV bumper. This is done to fit the extra horizontal slats

    Fog lights:

    - Euro QV's have the fog/driving lights on either side of the grill while the earlier cars do not have this.

Note that I custom made a 308 looking grill to fit in the GTO valance, I didn't want the driving lights...I want to keep the extra air flow for my intercoolers.

    Here you go.

I ran the car without the spare.
It's not so much that the car didn't track straight or feel smooth, it was the lightness in the steering. I could easily turn the steering wheel from side to side, without much response from the tires.
I don't track the car often, so I may be experiencing something that's typical.

    Thanks,
    That's what I'm looking for. I love the 288.
Was it a direct bolt on?

Basically, yes. The valance is a bolt-on. The GTO bumper I bought needed specail brackets, but I'm pretty sure the one Butch sells has the 308 mounts, not GTO mounts like the one I bought.

sure about that? Mine's original (I'm second owner, orig owner bought it in Italy in '85) and has the 3D emblem and the owner did NOT change it.

Interesting diffs between mine and David's '84. I suppose because his is a GTB?
Half v. full louvers on side window
flat v. raised F badge on front
roof spoiler on his, not on mine.

There is an indent in the hood for the badge, but as the car is not here and not sure if it is perfectly flat with the hood or slightly upward over the 'level' hood.

I just went to the basement to check. Ditto, with my '85' Euro 308 GTS QV, also original, also second owner, also original owner bought in Italy, also 3D emblem and owner did not change it.

The long spoiler was a factory option for USA cars. The short spoiler was a factory option for the Euro cars. It is not uncommon to find them either way. I have a USA car with the long spoiler from the factory. Since then, though, I've tucked the front bumper in a bit and changed the turn signals from all amber to amber-and-clear for more of a Euro look. But you can still see that it's a standard beefy USA bumper with the reinforced "teeth" like this:

I noticed your mirrors are painted red. Did you paint them or were they that way when you bought the car?

Has anyone ever taken the black bumpers off completely? Would be more of a 328 look I suppose.

They were on the car when I bought it. They are aftermarket, can't think of the name right now.

I've grown to really like it.

I had the deep spoiler, it came 'loose' with the car when I bought #22641.

It left my garage, and went over to live in Sean F.s garage!!!!

They bottom out too much for street/pothole use, IMO....

I STILL have not seen another 308GTB with a front 'nerf bar', as I have on #22127.......it appears 'original' as the fibreglass front lower spoiler is made around it, a la Factory, but I dunno.....

The second car has a totally steel front end, lower spoiler and all......
