    Perhaps a forum on FChat where users could post their sales / service experiences for various authorized F-car dealerships across the country. Although this would have to be done respectfully, and within the confines of the general rules, it might serve as a helpful guidepost for users (and dare I say even the dealers!).

    Comments / questions / concerns?

    as a one day F-car owner, I would be nice to see what i'm getting myself into. Would it also be broken down by models as well as regional dealers?

    At the current time I would envision it only as a forum to discuss sales / service experiences across dealers - not further broken down by model.

    There may be legal consequences for Rob or those who post negative info that turns out to be incorrect. We have already seen cases where someone would rant about dealer X and then later we find out that the customer was out to lunch. If legal issues can be avoided and dealers can be given a chance to respond to negative info before posting, I could see where it would be helpful.

    I voted YES! It would make it so much easier to share the great, good, bad and the ugly. We all could benefit from this for sure.

    We've talked about this on the Moderator forum. The way to circumvent legal exposure would be to (i) ask that only users that have direct experience with a particular dealer be allowed to post / respond (no hearsay), and (ii) not to have FChat in any way interpret or consolidate the results in some sort of ranking - which was never my intent in the first place.

    I've seen a dealer forum implemented on another board to great success and think it would add value here. If you were searching for information on Ferrari of Washington for example, rather than hunting and pecking through 3 different searches - one for "FoW," "Ferrari of Washington," "FoWashington," as well as all the other permutations - you could have the results consolidated in one thread.

    Additionally, there are some dealers that browse here. A very small minority actively post. I think all users have indicated they would like to see more of both. Giving them a dedicated forum could allow for them to become more active, and respond to users who have had a bad experience if they so desire to allow for both sides of the story to be explained.

    Rob believes such a forum would have limited benefit given users' ability to be able to search the archives. I've highlighted some of the rationale why I think it makes sense, and have asked him to chime in on the public debate.

    Further member thoughts would be welcome.

    In most circumstances I consider dealerships to be the enemy. They charge too much for their service, and their parts. My brother was a service manager for several dealerships. So, in a second hand sort of way, I know dealerships. But I don't know much. This would give me a chance to know my enemy. Sun Tzu said, "Know yourself and know your enemy."

    I say forget it. That's what the search feature is for. For every dealer that works his @ss off to do his best, all it takes is one unhappy customer and all that negativity casts a shadow on their reputation. Can you imagine X dealer with a grudge against Y dealer posting made up crap just to get back at them? The internet is too illusive and not the correct place to openly hold court IMO. It can be too damaging.

    The point would be to prevent unsubstantiated rubbish, and allow real customers with real experiences to post their opinions - good or bad.

    IMO it should come up as warranted, like your example. I don't think that dealers should be rated openly by anyone who could post anything they feel like. They may not want that. Why do you think you rarely get F-dealers openly posting on here? They know that it can only lead to problems. I spoke to a dealer friend recently and he confirmed that that's why he only will lurk here. It's the internet, i.e. cyber make believe ;)

    i concur. search works. i can't see how this wouldn't become a mess for rob and mods to babysit.

    i would leave things as is BUT encourage (somehow) members to post positives as well as negatives. although most dealer gripes appear to be legit, over the years i've seen a few dealers get unfairly and unreasonably beaten up here.

    What’s the problem here? As long as the author of a post is clearly ID’ed so everyone knows who it is and no inflammatory language is allowed then where’s the foul? There will need to be some simple rules that need to be meet to post. For example no first time posters. You must be a member to post to this forum. Another might be that you must give a date and an invoice # if you quote prices. There are several more common sense rules that come to mind with little thought. As always the rules to post can be amended as needed to keep the forum from becoming a dealer slam session. I think the dealers who lurk here need to hear directly from the people they do business with. They might just learn something.

    I agree, I do not think this is the right place for this. I doubt we are going to hear "I got 3 Tshirts when I bought my car." I have seen my local dealer (who happen to be friends of mine) take a beating in here, by people who had neer even had any experiences with them.
