Ok, here we go. In cockpit shots from MS' Ferrari in Monaco. First is qualifying lap entrance to St. Devote. I'm not that used to it all, but I believe the color on the right is the green flag given to me. I just watch the corner workers and their flags and they did a nice job. 2nd shot is the start of the race after I skipped qualifying (20 of 20). A Jordan to my right. Just like in GP4 or F1 2002 Challenge you have to rev the engine and throw in the 1st gear when the lights go out. I'm on a 1 stop strategy btw. 3rd pic is going downhill past the casino. I passed a couple of cars and managed to even snatch this shot! Haven't figured out how to pause the game. Anyway, I missed the breaking and went straight into the armco. Race over. A few comments: - This being the 05 season there are two qualifying sessions on Saturday and Sunday. - Being a cheap console rather than a mighty PC they made sacrifices in the graphics and you can see that in the steering wheel: On the PC the LCD display had all the important data, here it only shows a LED with the speed. Critical information is shown "in the sky": State of the car, state of the tires, fuel, position and driver aids - I really, really love the Logitech wheel. It feels great and gives good feedback. It was great in GT4 and it suits F1 2005 well. The car feels beefy and solid with just the right amount of feedback. About the same as on the PC. - And of course the best of all are the updated tracks. Monaco's exit from the pool is quite different (enlarged as it is now) and of course the pits are now facing the ocean. Cool beans. Thanks for the pics Andreas. Going back to the original topic on F1 withdrawal times ... The Goodwood revival festival is on Speed this weekend - dont forget to set your timers. There are two 1 hour programs on Sunday, Dec 18 - 3pm and 4pm EST. For those not in the know, it is similar to the Monterey Historics with lots of vintage and classic racing - GP Alfas, D types, GTOs, etc. Don't miss it!
And different from its sister event the "Goodwood Festival of Speed" it is done only with racecars from the sixties and older and the audience is dressed up in period correct costumes. Here a few shots I snatched this year. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
BTW, SPEED is showing DTM, in fact it is on today, listed as "Auto Racing: German Touring Cars." You have little chance of catching it without a Tivo though since it is on a pretty random times. I have a "Wishlist" for Touring cars and just recently put 2 + 2 together and realized that this is in fact DTM. So that will help pass the winter months. Also seen this week was "Car Crazy" from Goodwood (although Barry Maguire really creaps me out) and Nicky Hayden was the guest on Two Wheel Tuesday last night, SO... there is still some good stuff on SPEED, but it is few and far between.
Recently I discovered "Top Gear" and downloaded some of their shows from the net. Their 2005 year end review is one of the best car shows I have ever seen. I nearly lost it when they started sending cars to hell.
