It has occurred to me that having just one key fob with the alarm clicker in it is probably not prudent. Plus, I should have a spare key. Should I just have my dealer here in So. Calif. fix me up or is there another way of obtaining the alarm fob , getting it programmed correctly, and getting a key ?
I got the same thing for my 550 and I had to go thru a Ferrari dealer...it takes quite awhile, but it is well worth it as i now have 3 keys and fobs.
You only have one key & one alarm fob? If the 550 is like the 360, then you should have a red alarm fob and 2 black alarm fobs. The red alarm fob is a "master" and is needed to program replacement fobs (as it was explained to me).
You are correct...I had only one black fob and key...I bought my 550 second-hand and it took quite a bit of back and forth with the dealer, but I now have an extra black one and the red master.
talk to your authorized dealer. the PO of my 550 apparently lost the keys and had to get this done. it was expensive and time consuming. doody.
If you have the red one, don't bother. If you do not have the red one, you're SOL if you lose it. Either way, the setup is a complete rip-off and you'll need to shell out about 1k for the whole new deal. --Dan
As another poster noted, you should have two blacks and a red. I was told that when dropping the car off for service, you need to ensure the red one is provided to the tech, but I honestly don't know why.
Just had the 30,000 mile service performed and only gave them the black fob. I keep the red one locked up.
