I use to support the Sierra Club until they started to really screw up our timber reserves. It is their policy to impede through the courts any attempt by the Forest Service to allow logging companies to go in and clear dead wood. When logging companies go into a forest to harvest trees, part of their contract reads the FACT that they have to clean up the area and remove undergrowth. It is the undergrowth that causes the massive fires we have seen in the last thirty years. If you don't believe me, drive through Lassen County and pull off the road into ANY areas that loggers have been. Dead trees that still have high dollar value are pulled out and the area is clean of underbrush.

In Utah, a bark beetle infestation continues to destroy thousands of acres of conifir trees between Bryce and Zion National Parks. The Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance (with attitudes similar to those of the Sierra Club) has prevented any logging in this area of destroyed forest, so it is simply a conflagration waiting to happen. And we shouldn’t forget a thrid factor: those senators who have bottled up the Healthy Forest Initiative, at least, Diane Finestein seems to be coming to her senses on this issue by urging the Senate to get this matter on the floor for a vote.

If you want to continue to see our forests destroyed, then keep sending your checks to the Sierra Club. It's their board of directors and their lawyers that are getting rich while our natural forest lands are burning to the ground.

Ps: Do you think a spotted owl is too stupid to flee a burning forest? The Sierra Club's lawyers have certainly convinced the courts that they are!
