It's a UK abbreviation that stands for diesel engine road vehicle.

    According to the tech regs:

    http://www.lemans.org/sport/sport/reglements/pages/24hauto_gb.html

Don't know if that corresponds to pump diesel in Europe, but it probably does.

That is a good rule to be put in, was that the drivers that wanted that? hahaha Yeah, that would be a huge win if Audi could pull off a win with Le Mans! I wonder if it is going to be a real threat tho?

Why are there two pontoons behind the driver? Is it to facilitate right and left hand drive versions?

i beleive this car if its as reliable as the r8 will dominate lemans. If the name didnt give it away i am a bit of a fanboy but the torque curve will be enormous compared to any n/a engine and much more powerful than a boosted gasoline engine. And as far as audi pulling off a win, after the unparralleled succes of the r8 i highly doubt they would allow this car to be a slouch by any means.

You are confusing the LMP675/900 regulations with the new LMP2/1 regulations. In the old system, the cars were identical with the exception of a lower weight, less power and smaller tires for the 675 cars. The Lola and Zytek chassis of this specification took overall victories this year, but they ran in the LMP1 class. The new LMP2 class is intended as a cheap entry into the sport. Some stuff like a fully stressed engine/gearbox is not allowed for these cars. They might get close to the LMP1 cars' pace, but it was not intended like it was in the past.

This is part of the double roll-over structure mandated as part of the new LMP1/2 regulations.

I'm guessing that means "in this series"? Cummings ran diesel cars at the Indy 500 back in the 50s.

re: the Audi, does anyone know the % mileage advantage for the diesel over the traditional engines?

edit: 811 lb-ft. of torque? wow.

Frap. I was hoping for this match up also...

As an Audi fan, I will be pulling for the 4 rings to smoke 'em all.
