Could be a lot of things.

First thing I'd try is swapping out the power supply...

it does sound like a power supply problem.

520 is a good-sized jobbie, i doubt you're overloading it, but try unplugging things to see if that changes the behavior.

will the PS stay powered with nothing connected to it?

It's either power supply or the thermal grease between the heat sink and the cpu that isn't sufficient, thus over cooking the cpu and causing it to shut off.

Last computer I bought took 3 tries to get a working hard drive...qc doesn't seem to be as high a priority in the computer industry lately...

Jason is correct. "New parts" and "just installed" are two misunderstandings in the computer industry. Neither will equate to proper working order. There is a % of failure rate. It used to be 15-20% failure rate on most products. Now, it is somewhere around 2%.

So... did you use the thermal grease correctly? What else do you have hooked up to the system? How many hard drives, cards, etc? Can you just use the BASE stuff? vid card, memory, no hard drive and see what it does? Swap memory around.

Be sure power switch (110/230) is set correctly.

When you assembled this, were you careful to wear cotton, touch power supply occasionally & so forth to avoid static electricity?

clearing ESCD (which is the part of the cmos that you actually clear when you do it) will not. That would be to resolve other issues. This is a power supply or heat problem related to your cpu and the way you set it up.

Schatten you did it again, I just bought a new 600W PSU at compusa and it fixed the problem!

But.... there is another problem now.... the screen wont work. When I turn it on the OSD blue screen thing comes up, but no bios or boot thing.....

It works with my dads laptop, but not with my computer.
