    Hello all,

Does anyone know of anyone who has bits and pieces of dismantled 308 gearboxes ?

I am looking for part number 108522 (the lay shaft and crown wheel combination) ?

Already tried Ferrari UK, they have them but at a suitably high price ?

    Cheers

I have an entire 308 gearbox, but would only sell it as a complete unit - not dismantled, if that is of interest.

    Thanks guys for your help.

I am awaiting a replacement lock nut for the end of the shaft to see if it will go on with the damage on the threads.

Photos attached for your information. Long story, but basically it took a total of 25 hours of work to get the lock nut off the shaft!, and it looks like a section of thread sheared away, I am hopeful that a new nut will thread on, if not, let the madness begin!

I will be in touch for definite if the replacment nut won't go on!

    Hi Tom

Just checked # 108522 and it crosses over to #116943 - might be able to give you a bit of extra discount on the part if you can't find a good secondhand part.

PM me if you need further info

Forzamot, Tom I believe had some 308 parts on ebay a while back, one part was the lay shaft. Try him as well.

If I am seeing your picture correctly, you are showing a small area of thread removed near the notch for staking the nut? If that is all you are indicating, I would dress the threads with a file so the nut threads on nicely, and during assembly possibly use some thread locker. But even without thread lock, I cannot see any trouble. There is not that great of torque on the nut, and no way that I would be afraid to run it. At best you might have 1/20 less threads supporting the load, and I would assume a good 3X overload limit built into the design. Maybe someone with an engineering degree can weigh in here, but I just do not see a big problem.

Thanks for all your replies guys,

I think it will be OK the replacement lock nut has just arrived in the post and I have an appropriately sized thread file, independent advice from a number of sources/ specialists say it should be fine once I do a bit of work with a thread file, aparantly this does happen to these shafts occassionaly when the original lock nut is put on too tight in the first place (not something I did - I might add)

just had the box rebuilt so I have no intention of going through that again!

That part of the shaft is not load bearing anyway and I have a replacement bearing and lock nut now.

So fingers crossed all will be fine, I will put another post up once I do a bit of nifty thread repair work......... hopefully1

hopefully it will be a good start to my new year, and nto another teardown!
