I can't quite determine whether I have more fun with the Hill Engineering items, or the cool yellow boxes from Ferrari... in this case, I'm giving the nod to Paul Hill:

If you're doing a clutch job on your 6-speed F355 this winter, you might want to seriously consider this great new item from Hill Engineering:

Recognizing how many OEM clutch release bearings have their arse-end blown off, Hill decided to remanufactuer the bearing with much higher tensile aluminium -- and a much lower cost than the Ferrari version. The originals cost nearly $700. Buy a Hill version for only $400, and put the savings in your gas-tank for some spirited driving!

    Nice.

If I'm not mistake, shouldn't this also work on a 348?

No... or at least not perfectly. Quite amazingly, Ferrari (or SKF) moved the holes for the preload springs just slightly between the 348 and 355 bearings.

    (1) Both cars use the same flange (144984) where the preload springs sit,
    (2) The two cars use different preload springs (155207 = F355; 121717 = 348)
    (3) The TO bearings are almost identical except the holes for the preload springs are about 2mm different between the two.

I am WAY outside my comfort zone on this one, but I would think using this bearing on the 348 would lead to a less-than-perfectly straight spring. What are the ramifications of this? Over time? Under heavy heavy use like a track day?

    Experts?

(in the meantime, this is still "da bomb' for F355 owners!)

Hi Ernie, You can use that bearing from the 355 on a 348 but you have to change to the newer flange. I had what is appearently a typical problem on 348s(mine was a'93SS)poor design of the original bearing and seals which causes the seals to leak prematurely. The kit I bought was around a $1000.00 for the flange, new style bearing and the blue seals (Part no. 177784). Daniel could probably varify that number. Oh, and Daniel thanks for the watchful eye on the new part. Regards, Vern

Knowing how prolific Hill Engineering have been at turning out top quality F car parts in the last few years I'd be suprised if a 348 version wasn't being worked up sometime soon!
