Just reading Fchat for a break in the middle of writing a paper, which of course I left until the night before I'm supposed to leave for holidays. Actually, this is only medium procrastination, since it's not due until Thursday (but has to be handed in hard copy... which means before I leave tomorrow AM). Drives my wife bonkers as she's the type that gets an assignment and does it immediately - in college she finished her senior project nearly three months early!

Who else here is a master procrastinator?

Maybe I'll start a procrastinator's club sometime. I'll get around to it eventually...

I didn't receive my Masters degree until three years after I finished my coursework. I had already started working, and just never got around to taking the final test. I finally did work it in.

Used to do all term papers the night before they are due, staying up all night in the process. Adrenaline rush was great! But then went home after turning work in and crashed until next morning....unless it was Friday and would wake up to go to frat parties. :)

You too? I started one a few months ago, got sidetracked once I hit the scene-breakdown-development stage.

    I found this:
    Procrastinator's Creed

    * 1. I believe that if anything is worth doing, it would have been done already.
    * 2. I shall never move quickly, except to avoid more work or find excuses.
    * 3. I will never rush into a job without a lifetime of consideration.
    * 4. I shall meet all of my deadlines directly in proportion to the amount of bodily injury I could expect to receive from missing them.
    * 5. I firmly believe that tomorrow holds the possibility for new technologies, astounding discoveries, and a reprieve from my obligations.
    * 6. I truly believe that all deadlines are unreasonable regardless of the amount of time given.
    * 7. I shall never forget that the probability of a miracle, though infinitesmally small, is not exactly zero.
    * 8. If at first I don't succeed, there is always next year.
    * 9. I shall always decide not to decide, unless of course I decide to change my mind.
    * 10. I shall always begin, start, initiate, take the first step, and/or write the first word, when I get around to it.
    * 11. I obey the law of inverse excuses which demands that the greater the task to be done, the more insignificant the work that must be done prior to beginning the greater task.
    * 12. I know that the work cycle is not plan/start/finish, but is wait/plan/plan.
    * 13. I will never put off until tomorrow, what I can forget about forever.
    * 14. I will become a member of the ancient Order of Two-Headed Turtles (the Procrastinator's Society) if they ever get it organized.

    The quiz:

    You scored as Crisis-maker.

Your procrastination type the crisis-maker, the procrastinator who loves to live on the edge. This procrastinator is addicted to the adrenaline of the last-minute challenge. However, this form of procrastination often leads to missing deadlines, since living on the edge is a risky business.

Pretty close, but I don't often miss a deadline

im in the middle of doing my science power point presentation thing. Its due tomorrow, and I left it till the very last day. Same with all my other big presentations. But it seems that if I leave it off for a while I do better than if I do it right away. weird I know.

One of my college courses was public speaking; everybody had to give a speech in class, so that was the ONE thing you had to do all semester. The morning of MY day to speak, I drew up my visuals in the parking lot of Kinko's, took them in and copied them onto overhead transparencies, some 20 minutes before my speech. In the elevator up to class, I hear that the instructor, who is also the department head, is an EXPERT on fluidized beds (my topic.) Great. And he was, too. Boy did he grill me in the Q&A. Then he did even worse, he made me go to the regional ASME speech competition and give it there! Did I mention that I HATE public speaking? And because there was an honorarium for the ASME thing, I am officially a PROFESSIONAL public speaker :D

I'm now facing The Procrastinator's Dilemma: It's nearly 2am. I'm only 400 words away from the word limit - maybe 1-2 hours' worth. Then a second draft. I have to be packed, pick up last minute items from the store, wrap some presents and turn in the paper on campus, and be back for the airport ride at noon.

Do I sleep for 3-4 hours, or pull an all-nighter?

Good call. I need to be human tomorrow.

My best in college was "5 for 65" 5 hours sleep out of 65 hours straight... basically 1-2 hrs sleep a night for 4 days/3 nights.

"Your procrastination type is ADD. Attention deficit disorder, or ADD, is one neurological cause of procrastination. Frequently with ADD, there is difficulty staying with a task and seeing it through to completion because of a tendency to get sidetracked."

    Damn :(

Maybe I should do something about my ADD one of these days...

I assume you took drugs. That is unreal man. I generally will get at minimum 1-2 hours of sleep but I *always* plan to the point where I will generally average to a minimum of 4hours/night sleep.
