Is that the same car that Symbolic in San Diego sold? I had seen one in thier showroom once and it was waiting to be shipped to Austraila. Awsome looking car.

The Australian car S/N 3 was bought at auction, Symbolic had nothing to do with the sale. They may have shipped it for the owner I suppose.

I think Symbolic sold it to the Australian owner when he bought it. A few years ago now though.

I believe that F50 GT #003 has ended up in Japan. I believe it is the one seen in the photo on the main page of this website:

    http://www.lightauto1.co.jp (Click "Skip Movie")

I don't think this is Okamoto's F50 GT #002 as I doubt it leaves his collection all that often. I had also heard that the car went from Australia, to Oakfields in England and then on to some part of Asia so that does leave Japan as a possibility.

For those who care, the CLK GTR Strasseversion is #14 - I'm not sure about the race version. The McLaren F1 GTR longtail in the picture is strongly believed to be GTR #20R, and I have no clue on the MC12.

Phil it was a while ago that I had seen the car. At the time they were awaiting all the documentation to ship it.

Did you see they had a green Mclaren F1 in the showroom? Click on Aston Martin and check out the first pic: you can see the Mclaren in the back.

So 20R isn't in England anymore with McLaren?

Were the F50 GT, CLK LM, F1 GTR ever for sale there at one point?

i love how that place has a 288gto, enzo, diablo GT, CLK GTR, eb110ss, and an xjr15 right along side a VW polo, hummer h2, and a smart car.

on topic, did ferrari ever say why they only built 3 f50 GTs when they planned for a bunch more? i would guess they just cost too much to build vs the price they could sell them for so they were taking too big a hit on each car

F50GT and McLaren were there at the same time but the CLK GTR was long gone

Its chassis #51. Was in Germany before this

When they sold the 1st one, they said they'd only build 1, then they built another and said the same thing, and then a third one and they got sued so they had to destroy the 3 remaining tubs

That's chassis #051, formerly in Sweden, but sold out of KS-Autohandel in Germany recently. I knew Light-Auto "had it" as someone else found photos of it at a car show wearing their plate frame, but had not noticed that photo on their website, so thanks!

My apologies - I incorrectly stated #20R, when I should have said #28R. We discussed it on AF.com in the Japanese Fleet thread - in fact you were the first to suggest this car was #28R, and after a little more research from some of us I also agreed with that determination.

The owner of the first one sued Ferrari. They had to destroy the tubs etc.
The owner of S/N 1 then crashed the car fairly comprehensively not once; but twice. The car had to go back to Italy for repairs which must have been ummmm, interesting.

Minor clarification - the owner of the car (Art Z) wasn't driving it the first time it was crashed. The driver at the wheel was Johannes Von Overbeck, a Porsche factory race driver. Apparently it was not uncommon for Art to allow others to experience the car and he obviously failed to bring the tires up to temperature before pusing the car. The second crash also occurred at the end of an outlap on cold tires, but that time the owner was at the wheel. The damage sustained in that crash was not as extensive though, and Art told people on the scene that he already had all the necessary parts to put the car back together.

Peloton do you, or anyone else, know the reason Ferrari was sued? From what little that was said it seems rather odd for someone to sue Ferrari.

^ Because they said they'd only make one. 001 was bought under the condition that it would be the only one. Then they made another...and another.

Wasn't it Michelotto that was holding the tubs/building the cars anyway? I seem to recall them being involved in the process somehow.

I'm not exactly sure on all the details but Ferrari were made to destroy the remaining tubs because they "lied"
