250 GTO, what a beauty!!!!

 

You can't compare them.......
I can't decide which I prefer most........
So I can't vote.............

Tough choice as both cars are awesomely beautiful.

While they have the same name, the cars are not exactly comparable as one is a race car and the other is a road car. The 288 GTO was named in homage to the 250 GTO itself.

I think the 288 GTO is the best looking Ferrari road car and the 250 GTO and the 330 P4 is the best look Ferrari race car.

I'll take the 250 to drive and to look at it. The 288 is awesome but the 250 is for me!

The 250 GTO was the last GT that you could finish respectably at Le Mans with in the afternoon and drive to Paris in the evening to celabrate. (And this in fact happened). These were raw and wonderfull. Loud/hot/basic. After a long drive you felt it in your arms and when you shut down you'd hear the popping and ticking of cooling metal and smell hot oil.

The strange thing to me is anyone buying any car without driving it first. Cars, like Cheerleaders, often leave a different impression after a test drive.

288's are like SUPER 308's, IMO a bit easier to drive than F 40's, but compared to a 430 they feel old. Cars have come a long way.

There is one thing about driving any car with big history. Believe it or not you can feel that history many, many years later.

Cars with history stand alone and as good as a 288 is it will never have that feel...

 

Why all the 288 hype? it was built to race in europe and never did, it looks like a 308 (which I like) But lets be honest my god people we're talking about a 250GTO.
I can't believe anyone would choose a 288 over a 250. I guess variety is the spice of life,
250 GTO is the REAL DEAL.

 

Ok, tell me which one is the road car then please.


Both were racing and road cars. Jim paints the romantic 250 GTO picture (very cool driving to Paris after a Le Mans run), so it was both. The 288 GTO was born to be raced in Group B, which never was. So it became a road car and it was both as well. Which is probably for the better: I bet it would not have stood a chance against the almighty 959. I'm no Porsche fan, but that car kicked ass like few others being the only one that could race on a track and in the desert.

Jim, thanks for your comments. Much appreciated. I share the cheerleader comment. How can we pick one over the other without knowing how they handle? These things were meant to be driven not just to be adored on a pedestal.

 

250 for me although I'd prefer a SWB. I've ridden in a 250 and the it is a wonderful beast. Friend had one that he occasionally drove to Tahoe (not in the winter). George

 

i went with the 250, it just has that classic design that won't ever get old.

 

Why I gave up buying "modern" cars in 1983. Time-less cars appreciate and are appreciated, modern cars depreciate (for the most part) and annoy people. George

 

My favorite print of mine of the 288. I've ridden on track in both. The 62 is still & always will be the original work of art.

To me, the 250 is one of the most beautiful cars ever built. The 288 is good looking too dont get me wrong, but there's very very few that can match the appeal of the 250. And the sound of it...simply wonderful. I had a calender which featured the 250 for in July I think, well it was july for several months. I just couldn't change the month because I love that car so much.

I also take the practical route on this one...

Given the appropriate finances, you can buy 288's "all day long"... there are always at least around 5 288's for sale anywhere in Europe.

Finding a 250 that's available is a different story...

So being faced with the choice between the two NOW (i.e. both are available), I'd go with the 250 without hesitation.

250GTO -- the sound, the look, the heritage. There's a reason for the price differential.

288GTO: nice car.
250GTO: better than sex.

The 250 is probably the most beautiful car ever made. The 288 looks good but it just isn't as timeless as the 250.

 

Exactly, soo while the 288 voters will be able to buy one tomorrow, the 250 voters will have to fight each other and wait till another auction comes along.

 

I'll take the $10 millions 250 GTO over the $400,000 288GTO ... Why??? the number of dollars reflex apprecition of people toward each cars. In other word, people or market love the 250GTO 20 times over the 288GTO... and I totally agree.

 

The 288 is the super Dino with its turbo V8, 250GTO is a V12 legend, totally stunning looking and sounding, imagine how it looked back in the day compared to big ugly Ramblers and Ford Galaxies, Enzo Ferrari at the time was quoted saying only a few in the world could handle or master its ferocity.

 

I would first buy the 250 GTO and then the 288 GTO.
