in my quest to upgrade the stock worn out konis' with adj coilovers i noticed that the diff was spitting oil and causing batmobile smoke screens. so i'm now replacing the axel seals with new double lip one from t-rutlands. in order to do this we need to remove the halfshafts and thier cv joints, anyone see where this is going? yep more worn parts. all 4 cv joints need replacing, i found that pelican parts had them instock for a resonable price so i should have them this afternoon. Ricambi is supplying me with the boots and hardware so i should be up and running soon, i think... see it's one of those while it in the sir and you're there propositions. brake lines i'm having some new SS ones made this afternoon so i'll bleed and replace those lines.

those cv joints i'm replacing have been on the car since they left the factory and 3 of the 4 have not been re-greased or touched since then. 2 had knuckles so gaulled it was sickining. 1 when removed from the axel shaft puked it's bearings onto the floor, way too sloppy. and the fourth which had been re-greased well some one had a grudge against this guy and let loose with a blunt object upside it's face. the axels themselves are okay, i checked run out and color for heat stress. cleaned and repainted.

so now i'm going to be checking the wheel bearings and see how much more money i can burn before the year ends.

also i've decided that the CIS injection is way to restrictive for right foot dancing, so i'll be switching over to carbs and P6 cams while i work on the new big EFI with FI setup. yep TURBO power and modern EFI. that'll be a project so at least i'll be able to have fun for now untill i get that all worked out.

    this is truely a deases.

SMG2, I believe the axles (CV joints and the axel) are the same Lobro axles used on an 80's 911sc and carrera. Take a look through the archives for confirmation. I replaced mine a while back with the 911 axles (complete, CV's and axles) which were new lobros for about about $250/side. Don't go for the rebuilds - they're typically junk and not that much cheaper. As I recall, this approach (ordering the porsche part # rather than the ferrari #) saved a couple hundred bucks per side and gets you exactly the same part. Good luck!
