The BBB is an advertising gimmick, you are allowed membership if you can pay the dues, the membership allows you to place bbb member in your advertising or in the window of your business.

I get several calls a year from them wanting my $2500 membership, all calls start the same way. Hey we have been hearing good things about your company, my reply, from who???? answer ummmmmmm from some people, ya from some people

Don't get scammed by the BBB

I had some title isues on a car once but it was taken care of before the finance co put their $ down. took about 3 months to fix. It is fixable but requires patience, probably a good idea to have your lawyer write the dealer a nastygram so they feel the heat & get cracking

I bet with the BBB about 30% or so of people that get REEEEALLY pissed off contact them, while only like 1% of those satisfied or VERY satisfied even bother to call. So basicly its a place for pissed off people to goto to b!tch and complain...Im sure its even higher among OLD unhappy paople with too much free time.

BTW, I have never even delt with or called or anything with them, its just seems like a big joke to me.

Also, I feal so bad for you about the title man, this kinda stuff scares the heck outta me!! Ive seen shows where guys buy stolen cars and they have to just give em up when they turn up stolen, and if you bought it from an individual you're pretty much SOL.

ALWAYS call the cops to varify that its not stolen!!! and check the VIN, especially with a private seller!!!

I'm sure the dealer had this car on floor-plan. (It's like a line of credit for automobiles) Generally they have to place the car on floor plan with a VIN and when it is sold, report it as such. The bank wants to get the money back when the car is sold since the car is their collateral. If the dealer is short on cash, he can take your money and not report it sold the bank. When the cash flow problem disappears in a few months he calls the car in as sold on floor plan. Then you get your title. This may not be the case with a large franchise dealer, but just be aware.

    Thanks everyone...heres the update..

Talked to Chase...they said in California DMV holds the title and as far as they know there is no problem with the purchase. Having said that I dont think I actually ever got ahold of anyone at Chase who would know if they have paid for the car yet or not.

Talked to DMV and they said dealer only has 30 days in Cali to process Registration papers,etc..not 90.. Im not sure if thats new or not but its what they have told me twice.

Finally got a fairly straight answer out of the dealer.. car comes from Iowa. Its not stolen , not salvaged..I checked. But from what I could gather ( dealer likes to be kind of vague ) theres some signature missing from the paperwork that came from iowa ( Im assuming it might be some kind of lien) and they have been chasing it down.

Dealer claims it will be resolved this week. They also admitted that someone at dealer dropped the ball and after the car was sold basically just ignored the issue for awhile.

All of this would lead one to assume this car was an auction car or something is wrong with it but I had the 30k done right after I bought it at an independant shop and they said the car was in great shape..it only has 13k miles on it as well...so I dont know why the paperwork seems to be in such disarray.

It hasnt cost me anything other than some stress that perhaps the car was stolen,etc..but that doesnt seem to be the case.

I told the dealer I'd give them until end of next week to wrap it up or I'd have to get my lawyer involved.

    Thanks again !

It really seems to be just a mix-up with past leins etc. I really would not worry. But I can only imagine being such a large purchase. Unfortunately these things do happen. I have seen it a few times.

You bought the car from a large dealership and I sure things will be fine.

Hope you will be enjoying the Ferrari soon.

    Clarification of my statement:

Dealer has to log the registration with the DMV w/in 30 days of the vehicle sale but the dealer has up to 90 days from the date of the sale to pay all the fees!

I did not make that clear.

This can in some instances hold up the processing of a title as I had indicated.
