Would you want a stick-shift in the F-60?

Ill take a stick and a clutch peddle over the paddles any day.

 

I think he means the enzo If so, no! The car has been set up by the most famous F1 driver of all time. The car has lights on the wheel like an F1 car, the cabin is spartan and the car borrows a huge amount of technology from Ferrari's formula cars. The paddle's are on this car for a reason.

Yes, he means the next Ferrari supercar, hypothetically called the F60.

If I got an F430, I would want the 6 speed manual. If there was an F60, I would want the 6 speed manual. But I have a feeling that will not be an option in the future.

 

I would want the option, the ability to choose.

 

I would want the choice of having a true sequential gear box. I'm actually suprised that no manufacturer has produced a street car with a sequential box.

PS. Sequential boxes are very popular in ultra high performance off-road /dune buggies. A number of companies making them.

As much as I love stick shifts I think I would keep the F1 transmission on my Enzo. It fits more with its purpose and personality. Ive driven a 550 and a 575 F1. In a car like that I would opt for a regular manual transmission because it is more of a GT car. However, Ive driven the Enzo as well, and the transmission is a thing of engineering perfection! Wouldnt have it any other way on an Enzo. It was too much fun

 

always a 6 speed.. im not racing it so i dont care about maximum response time of a paddle... I want to feel that 'snikt' of the gated shifter..

 

Ditto. 6-speed all the way.

 

If I *have* to have the F1, at least give me a clutch pedal as well so I can sidestep (no pun intended) all of the common problems of the F1 system.

 

What are the common problems?

 

I don't think an average driver would really be able to manually shift quick enough to keep up with the rest of the car. Things just happen so fast and violently with the Enzo that a manual transmission just seems out of place. We all want to think were talented drivers but the Enzo just magnifies mistakes to an extreme. The occasional glance down at the shift gate and the next thing you know, it's quickly all over.

I want to know why road cars are not allowed to have true sequential boxes. Motorbikes have had them for decades. Something in the legislation.

 

Doesn't the porsche gt3 count?

 

As far as I know the GT3 has a standard 6 speed.

 

Phil I'm with you ,a sequential box would be awsome. I had seen a very trick street driven Pantera with an S box. Just too cool. I've driven off road cars with S Boxes and it was the best. Full power upshifts with no lift.

Not aware of one... The 997Cup car is a race car, not a road registerable car.....unless you know different? It's not registerable in Oz, and I doubt UK and US.

 

The Bugatti 16.4, to my knowledge has a 7 speed sequential box.

 

It does, but it is a paddle shift, not a manual.

 

Is it a true sequential... meaning every gear change up or down is only one click away... or does it go through neutral to get the next one....

All the Ferrari road F1 shifters are just H pattern boxes, with help, which is why I used to think they were slow, but now with the F430 and Enzo having really quite fast shifts in race mode, I'm now more of a fan.

 

Everything that I've read states the Ricardo trans is a true sequential unit. Infact it is supposed to shift even faster than the Enzo in it's most aggressive mode. One thing for sure, it's one huge transmission. But I guess it has to be to handle that much torque.
