I just put a $1000.00 deposit on an Infiniti GT-R. The dealer said he expects the cars to be delievered beginning in March 2007. I am the 2nd deposit he had accepted so far...I plan to use it as my daily driver as a replacement of my current e39 M5.

Interesting - did the dealer have more confirmation than the rumors I've heard about powertrain, output, etc? I haven't been keeping up 100%, but since you have put yourself 'in the loop' figured it was worth asking close to the source...

The rep. at Infiniti of Gwinnett told me the GT-R was now a 100% go and that it would be sold as an Infiniti rather than a Nissan. He said his info indicates that it will be a TT V-6 putting out ~450hp...It is expected in March 2007 as either a 2007 or maybe a 2008 model. I just hope the back seats are a little more usable than those in the current G35 coupe...

Franklin, I wouldn't bet on back seats being any better...last I heard it was still based on the Z/G35 platform (Ghosn is a master of consolidation) so I wouldn't expect changes other than powertrain, suspension, body. Maybe new trim and stuff for the interior, but I'd be shocked to see it differ much from the G as far as seating room (though hopefully they won't delete the seats as in the Z)

No chance.. you'll be lucky if the first US deliveries are 'March 2008'... I'd plan for Summer 2008 at the earliest.

And the chassis is completely new. Its not being built from the 350z/G35/Skyline chassis.

My first post on this board so grain of salt here but I would LOVE to buy an Infiniti/Lexis/Acura sports car withOUT forced induction, WHY can they not come up with a motor without it.
The NSX was a great car - 270HP - but a great car - not enough and the market eat them.
I feel they are missing a huge middle ground here - more refinement than a vette or viper, less anticeptic than a Porsche and less expensive (and less exclusive granted) than an Fcar.
I have always wanted a Ferrari and have been lurking the board and the maintenence on my Piper Arrow seems in line now unless i go for the 308/328.

And frankly boys I'll rather have the plane.

They tried this concept with the twin turbo RX7 and 300XZ and it seemed like a lot of stuff going on, even for the japanese. But I bit anyway because I thought the RX had it all. So it didnt make me thrilled to see the mechanics standing behind a brick wall to test the turbo that they were replacing.

How much are they charging you? Its an Infiniti which should mean a 6/70 warranty - have you checked that out?

If its 65K and the warranty count me in - I have owned some of their cars and have been happy in a utilitarian way.

I know this is blasphamy on this site but have you driven the the new vette? 06s have a sequential and LPE will blueprint it for 12K.

Im thinking that just might be the daily driver.

    Congratulations on your order.
I do agree though that you will probably be looking more at early 2008.
The Proto is now under wraps again, undergoing some more cosmetic changes (as was expected after its initial launch).
Will be quite interesting to see what they are doing to it.

It actually looks more like a bastardized 350Z( well in my eyes anyway)
here's a slightly more softer look from the unveiling at the Tokyo show.

I'm very surprised that you managed to get a deposit down so early and only for $1000.
According to Tamura-San, deposits arent being taken yet, but Zele international( the Official dealers) will be taking orders in the New Year. Thats from the closest inside info your going to get, but big up to you if you managed a deposit already.

I really hope it's NOT an Infiniti, where did you make the deposit? I've read others putting money down at NISSAN dealerships.

    Do tell.

I received an e-mail from my Infiniti dealer manager and he said per the info he received at his recent trip to Japan for training that the new GT-R will definitely be badged an Infiniti in the USA.
