    Maui, Hi
Just recently my old\reliable gtsi started giving me a very hard time starting aftr sitting for about an hour or two, every morning starts up fine, and i drive away, if turn off \then back on the car after it is warmed up she fires up no problem, ..let her sit for an hour or two, now have to crank, and crank , and crank, nogo, turn off ignition, then keep on cranking, still not a peep of combustion, turn on again ,crank and pump the gas petal again after like what seems to be an eternity, I get a little bit of combustion, then keep on cranking then finaly a full blown start, but it seems sputtery and rough like seems only 1 bank is fireing up, but after revving to about 4,000 it seems the 2nd bank kicks in and now sounds like a V8 should.
( this is with a full tank of gas)

Any hints of what to examine first \ second are appreaciated.

Could be the fuel pressure accumulator. It is supposed to keep the system under pressure and prevent vapor lock after the engine is turned off. If it is a U.S. model, pull the vent tube off the back of the accumulator and see if there is fuel in it. If so, the diaphram is leaking and the accumulator needs to be replaced.

Another possibility is the check valve in the fuel pump letting the pressure drop quicker than normal.

It sounds like a leak down problem in the injection system. If you PM me your number I can lead you through the tests or find a local shop that is competent to test your system.

    Maui, Hi
Thank for your input ,Its a US version, I will do some checking on the fuel pressure accumulator this weekend If its leaking then its a simple? replacement, if its ok then Larry I'll pm you my # and we'll give the FI system a glance over.
    Thanks.

Here is a bit of an update... it seems to take less cranking time to fire it up when I remove the connecton for the auxilary starter injector, possibly a too rich condition ?
I would figure a strong fuel odor from the tail pipe, but all I sense seems to be a faint smell of fuel if any.

Anybody have any other ideas don't hesitate to chime in with your 2 cents

I had that on my 83 and it was the accumulator stuck in the close position.

It's the cylinder next to the fuel pump.
