I don't think it would be very easy to dismantle this or any CMC model. Screws used to assemble it are well hidden. Add me to the list of those skeptical about whether Exoto will ever deliver any of the 1/18th Ferraris they have promised. It's a shame because Exotos are among the nicest miniatures but their delivery schedules are B******t.
Peter you are right about the wheels hubs protruding to far on the CMC, this is probably due to their functionality. You may also be correct about the wirespokes being too thin but that doesn't bother me as it enhances the ability to see the brake discs and calipers. I disagree about the grillework, it doesn't look plastic on mine and the comparison with Hot Wheels is unfair. The grille on my 250GT looks more realistic than those on my Exoto Cobras. Like yourself I'd like to see this car issued in racing livery, in particular Rob Walker's 1962 Goodwood TT car as driven by Stirling Moss. I wouldn't hold my breath though, CMC doesn't typically do different versions of their miniatures.
This is true...although I do believe they are releasing a second version of the Maser 250F, so it might not be too far fetched for them to do a 250GTC SWB.
Got my model today. This is friggin unbelievable: NONE of the pictures do this model any justice, it is so detailed. Literally like a miniature version of the real deal. Kyosho models are crude in comparison. Based on the details of the CMC model I can now update a few things on my Jouef car.
arrgh kicking myself for not having seen these !!!! I wish for these sooo bad... especially the 500....
Be real careful when opening up a door, hood or trunk lid. Don't pull on the door handle. Rather, use a fingernail in a door seam to open. The door is spring-loaded kinda' tight. It's easy to inadvertantly pull off the chrome drip rail off the roof of the car. Another point...along the rightside of the trunk is a metal stand to prop-up the trunk lid. Maybe just like the real thing. Resist the urge to operate it. It isn't glued-in very well and I pulled it off. I car re-glue it but it now means having to remove the spare tire. This is not a model to pass around a group like a Hot Wheels or Burrago. KevFla
Thanks for the tip... I tend not to "fiddle" with my models too much, but with an example like the CMC 250SWB, it's hard not to want to "show it off" to friends/family/etc. The level of detail for a model car is - really - ridiculous. Most people can't comprehend real leather interior on a 'toy', so you have to show them! I'll keep my meddling with it to a minimum, though...
UPDATE! The latest issue of Octane says CMC will be releasing the SWB in the livery that it raced at the '61 TT by Mike Parkes. "This is the first evolution of CMC's beautiful road-going 250. Representing the car driven to second place in the '61 TT by Mike Parkes, changes include front air intakes, a racing fuel filler and protective exhaust guard. It is limited to just 250 pieces worldwide. 169.99GBP" I'm glad i waited. This is the one for me
I wonder when this comp version will come out? The yellow version isn't even out yet. I'm guessing at least 6 months...
Yes, i saw that too but according to their website, its not "officially" been released yet. Then again, maybe their website needs updating... Another here: http://cgi.ebay.com/1-18-CMC-Ferrari-250-GT-250GT-SWB-1961-Yellow_W0QQitemZ7023465347QQcategoryZ223QQssPageNameZWD1VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem "Without Original Box". Sounds fishy
I can tell you these without box CMC models are the sample from factory, there were a few modelshops in HK which have some special connection to model manufacturer. The can get the models for less than half retail price and sell to public (mainly ebay auctions). But over 99%, they have defects. Last time, I paid for a non-boxed CMC 250GT SWB red one for about 40USD. and the AA 787B for 45USD. Even those AA limited 911 GT3R Charles Kwan, it cost about 30USD.... of coz, the quantity these shops got is about 10-30 pieces....
When I read about the possibility of a competition version of the Ferrari 250SWB, I contacted CMC's sales representative here in the USA. He told me, to the best of his knowledge, their are no plans, at this time, to release any competition versions. Too bad, would have been nice. Latest update is that the yellow version will be available in May, followed shortly thereafter by the Maserati "Birdcage", a model most of us CMC collectors have been anxiously awaiting.
Looked at the Octane web site and couldn't find the photo you're referring to. Can you post the picture or send a link to it. My curiosity has me really wondering if perhaps this is a modification done by a model builder since CMC is denying it's existence.
I just got a reply from CMC. Aparently, the Comp. version i mentioned earlier is a modification of their model by an outside company and not an "official" release. I'd still like to see what quality it is.
