2 1/2 months on a new, bone stock 12" PowerBook and not one crash or hiccup. And I'm a huge resource hog--I run multiple apps all the time. Beautiful machine. Never going back to Windows.

If you're looking for a really good deal and money & time is an issue, consider buying a 'refurbished' Powerbook from Apple. Go to the Apple website, click the 'store' tab, lower right side, click the 'Special Deals' red tag. Refurbished 15" 1.5 Ghz for $1450. Referbs from Apple are as good as new and carry the same warrantee. They are also eligible for AppleCare, which you can purchase anytime up to one year after the original purchase date.

However, as I said, I would seriously consider waiting until next week when MacWorld opens.

This is true. My 3 powerbooks have locked-up approximately 2 or 3 times each. In their lifetimes. I've never lost any data due to said crashes however.

In comparison, my little used pee cee has to be whiped & re-installed about every 6months, and I've had half a dozen completely catastrophic failures where the drive's contents were so damaged that they were umbootable, and even Norton, etc couldn't retrieve much.

The macs are MUCH better, but not infalable by any means. Backup any data you care about, preferably in geographically diverse locations.

Our whole office runs on Apple, and we rerely have downtime. We don't have an full time IT person. Just somebody on call, which we have in on average twice a month.

The big advantage of the Apple OS is that maybe one percent of the virusses is Apple based. 99% are for the PC world.

I have a 12", 15" and a 17" powerbook, and use the 15" with the new high screen resolution the most.
