I had a similar situation. I gave my kids an extra $1 per week to take the trash bins in for the neighbors. After about a month or two of doing that (twice a week), I saw my neighbor outside. I told him that my kids were on the trash bin program. He said he had not noticed it, but would take them in himself. I said "Don't do it yourself, you have kids also!". This put a friendly spin on it, and my wife does not have to drive past the trash bins everyday now. That was about a year ago, and no problems since.

    I'm not going crazy.. hopefully.

Cans are still there, and have now been joined by another on the other side of the street. Wouldn't be a problem, except that there are no houses on the other side of the street.

Maybe it wanted to come down and check out the party? I might hoist one on top of my brick mailbox just so I don't throw off the feng shui of these carefully placed ornaments.

That gave me a good laugh.

Just go talk to them or send them a letter. It really isn't as complicated as it has been made.

I agree that the association should take care of it. I left my xmas lights up the week after New Years last year and received a letter to have them down by the weekend or face a board to defend my actions. Hmm, I'm now thinking of putting xmas lights on my trash cans and leaving them on the street all week.

    Chris...

I like you and I read a lot of your posts and you seem like a smart, sensible, down-to-earth kinda guy, so I'm kinda confused by this...

Let me ask you a question, in all seriousness: Who gives a flying ef you sea kay if your neighbors leave their trash cans out by the curb...?

Seriously, i swear to you, that's a serious question... i seriously have no idea why it bothers you...? Is it an appearance thing...? The neighborhood doesn't look as nice because there's some garbage cans out there...? Dude, i swear, i'm being serious... Seriously...

If it were MY house (and maybe this is why i don't HAVE a house), i would go over and thank them for leaving their cans out all the time... Maybe they're the type of people who work until really late and won't have time to put the cans out in the street until 2am... That would wake people up and piss people off... i think they're doing your entire neighborhood a service by leaving them out there all the time...

It looks like poop NNO. He has a valid complaint. My neighbours tell me the people that lived in the house prior to me, parked a bass boat on the front lawn during the winters. That's tacky, like the garbage cans. I wouldn't loose sleep over it, but everytime I saw it I would think a bass boat on the front lawn was pretty trashy.

Get this same exact pic and write on it "Please put away you trash cans. You are the only ones that do this" or something like that. Maybe they will get the hint and put them away. It's a good way of getting the point across with out being confrontational.

    It's worth a try.

    Chris,

Wheel the damn things right behind their cars. Do it everyday. They will get the picture and put them where they belong.

One of the reasons people move into neighborhoods with an H.O.A. is for this reason. They are there to enforce the rules and keep the home values high. If it's in the bylaws not to leave your trash cans out, then there's no reason to have a discussion.

O.K. perhaps some fun...because I agree that leaving your trash cans out all week is inconsiderate and tacky.

Suggest: Night before trash day, when every neighbor has their cans out, you put on your trash 'ninja' outfit about 2:30-3:00 am, and move every trash can in the neighborhood either in front of your neighbors house, or onto their front yard.

An alternative would be to simply move their trash cans to some other house/street/or city sometime during the week!

Pfft, Light weight. If they have an automatic watering system, fill it up with bubble fluid and watch their lawn die. Actually, bad idea. Check with your city bylaw type things. There has to be something about leaving your trash cans out in the street for days and days.

But isn't that merely a matter of taste and opinion...?

Seriously, i'm not trying to bust balls here - hell, if i had a house, my cans would be in the garage or somewhere out of sight - but isn't "tacky" just an opinion...? Is that really a good reason to start @#$%ing with the guy's garbage cans...?

It doesn't really bug me, it just irks me that someone doesn't look around them and realize that the reason why this neighborhood is so nice is because we all work to maintain a certain standard.

To look at it another way, let's say you shared a cubicle with someone who made the decision that he just doesn't want to shower anymore. Obviously his choice doesn't directly affect your way of life, but you'd probably say something once the stench started to interfere with your concentration, right?

I'm all for exercising personal taste (pink houses, lawn jockeys, etc) but this is just lazy.

I have a neighbor that sets his trash over the property line between our houses. The guy is a heart surgeon and is a real prick. I guess he gets his jollies doing this to piss me off. What a jerk.

This, to me, is the best suggestion... It doesn't actually harm your neighbors' property and would, i think, effectively get the point across...

...not only that, the sanitation workers who collect on your street would be pretty happy, too... :)

I hope I don't give him any business soon. I guess you're right so I just leave him alone, it's not worth a fght. The boat is great and right now I'm still in love with it. What a great machine.

You see, that's my point........... With that laid back attitude you wont need him for anything more then polishing the anchor. He's just trying to bother you to drum up some business. ;)

I'm really glad the boat is working out for you.
