Ok race fans who is up to some slot car racing or slot car grudge matches this coming Feb? Check out www.dadsslotcars.com. A two track 1/24 & 1/32 scale facility to get us primed for Summer cruising. It's located in downtown Des Plaines IL.

I've talked to the owner and he will work with us on a package for the club. We can do a two hour deal but only after 5:00 pm on Saturdays. Plenty of places to eat, drink, and spin tales of the racing events afterwards. Looking at interest level from all of you. Money up front and price determined by number of participants and hours there, example 8 people/1 track for one hr $125. Looking at mid to end of Feb weekend, most likely Saturdays.

Ok first official challenge - Bill come on down from that cold Wisc town and face me like a real man - "ON THE TRACK". Prize is bragging rights and posted winning picture on FChat. I know someone would be taking pics of this heated event. This one event should be enough to get everyone down for the big heat.

Alright, let's make this an official FOC event, since we won't be doing too much 1/1 scale driving in February anyway:

Let's do one hour of slot car racing for $ 15 per person. We need 8 participants and FOC will offer trophies for the best three. After the event we can for beers/dinner nearby.

We also need to decide on a weekend in February, so lets hear it from you guys and gals.

    Driver lineup:
    - Rick
    - Andreas
    need at least 6 more

My vote is for Saturday Feb 11'th with the 18'th as back up. These are the only two Sat open for me. There is Olivetti's Italian two blocks away along with a Mexican rest. and a few pizza/rib places nearby. Race say 3 or 4 pm for an hour then drinks or dinner then rest of night free to do whatever.

    Sounds all good to me.

This will also finally give me a chance to test the pro slot car I built a while ago:

This is a great idea Rick. I know Andreas has been shooting the idea around. Vince lives in Des Plaines and I am sure if he is free from taking care of his hot shot Michigan Ave wife and stud of a son he can go. Since I haven't seen any of you lately, if Vince attends, I am definitely in. Hope all have a good New Year.

Ok, mark your calendars: Saturday, February 18th at 3pm in Des Plaines

I reserved the big track in 1/24 scale (see picture below) for an hour. 8 drivers can participate, so we have a couple of vacancies. Price per person is $ 15. BTW: The place has a nice little bar with milk shakes and ice cream.

It has been brought to my attention that my manhood was challenged in this post!!!

Are you guys taking more than 8??? I might be able to make it. I don't think I have anything going in Feb.

I must ask, is there ANY skill involved in these slot cars or is it simply squeezing the trigger and hoping your car wins somehow??? I remember these things from when I was a kid. I remember that you simply had to squeeze the trigger and that was about it. Every once in awhile they would fly off the track. That was about it.

Tell me about this stuff. Is it any different??

Yes you have been offically challenged: Man to man grudge race: Can't do pinks since they aren't our cars but again bragging rights on F Chat and possible pics to be posted. Hope you can make it. Yes just squeeze it as you state it. Can tell you must be a youngster. Well to the better man. Hope to see you down here.

We have the track for an hour so we can do several races and swap drivers, so I'm sure we could accomodate more than eight drivers.

The finesse in slot car racing lies in how much you squeeze the trigger and when you stop squeezing altogether. Pressed firmly your car will fly off in the first turn.
I assume this place uses magnets for its cars, but some places don't and then you even powerslide/drift through a turn. That is not for the hand-eye-coordination impaired.
Finally with modern digital slot cars (not at this place) you can even switch lanes and integrate refueling strategies into your race. The car has a chip that mimicks fuel consumption and you have to eventually pit to refuel.

Already looks like a good turn out. I heard on News Radio 780 yesterday that apart from the end of this week and part of next, the spring like weather will be back. If the misty rain, ( well at least out where I am, ) goes away, will anyone be bringing their fun cars? Anyway, thanks for setting it up Rick. Will anyone be bringing their kids, significant others?

I might bring my fully stock Altima if I can make it. It is a fun car, if you are into slow sedans with around 200 HP.

You can count Frankie and I in as Spectators. Actually,my B-Day is on the 15th.,so,I'll have him that weekend. We were just at Al's Hobby Shop in Elmhurst a Month ago, looking at the bigger slot cars. I was going to ask them where there is a track around. (Forgot....got wrapped up in the Rocket section....:) )

I remember when I was a kid, about 7 years old,('67). One of my Uncles had a few of those cars. He had the Big track at home. But there was also a huge slot car track on Chicago Ave.,just West of Central Ave. that had some big tracks. You could go in there and race anyone. He also had a Batmobile. That was when 'Batman' just came out. Pretty Cool.

I'll bring the Maserati, if it's engine (top end currently in pieces all over the garage, heads at the machine shop) is back together by then. I just got my top-end rebuild kit with all the gaskets and seals, so as long as the heads don't take too long I'm cautiously optimistic.

Hmm, lets see: It is just past your birthday and you're there with your lovely little son and you two are forced to watch us play with slot cars? That just doesn't sound right. Since we have the track for an hour we'll figure out something with different drivers, so rest assured you'll be driving too. And your son. After all I want to plant that bug in him. :)

Scalextric released the Batmobile from the latest movie:

Loved the last Batman movie. Best of all of them and that car was ultra cool.

    I DON"T THINK SO ANDREAS!

Ans sorry to disappoint you all, but typical hollywood fashion, the car was not destroyed in real life. I happen to know the owner of the two spyders and the updated tessarosa stunt car (modified Pantera - Oh No!).
