I have a 348 Spider with Tubi decat.

It's been suggested that it would sound better with a K&N filter.

Any comments or advice on this pls?

If it is recommended, what filter do I need and where best to source it pls (UK)?

    Thanks :)

I bought my K&N on eBay.com. Didn't notice any difference in sound (then again, I'm not the world's best hearer).

From everything that I have read, I think the jury is still out on this one...I have one and haven't noticed any difference....Good thing about them is that they are reusable.

Do a thread search, you will find a LOT of information (and misinformation) on the subject. Ultimately it is up to you. I think there is a good case for either side of the issue. (how's that for commitment?)

My thoughts? Used them on all my cars (and motorcycle) until recently. Neither my current BMW 540 sport or my 355 spider have them at present. I may get them eventually...or not...just not sure.

16 rear wheel horse power putting one in dyno proven. I have charts on my own car and there are charts on the old Ferrarichat site showing the improvement for the 348 at a "Texas dyno day" if I remember.

As far as improved sound all I really noticed in sound was that you hear the valves more than before as the engine makes more of a whirring sounds. Also before the system goes into closed loop mode at startup you hear a lot more noise than before. Other than that no real difference in sound.

I have one on my 328. The only difference that I notice is in the intake. You can hear more air being sucked in (from the side vents). Don't feel that much difference in power.

That was my observation on my 328GTS as well. But Rob Lay did back to back dyno runs and found 10hp increase on his 328GTS with the drop in K&N air filter.

Would simply removing the stock air filter and running it for a short run in a non-dusty area without a filter test the feel and sound of less restriction? Or would even a short stint risk a problem?

If your driving a V8 (or V12) Ferrari...chances are you wont hear any difference. :D

I noticed a change in sound when I installed one on my RX8, though.

Jas, I got mine from QV London when I was having some warranty work done. They supply a lot of the independent specialists.

Easy to put in. Just unscrew the box and pop it in.

I did notice a slight difference. Engine felt slightly smoother as if it was breathing a little better.

Only negative thing I've heard is that as the filter is oil based it can cause problems with some associated part.

People have reported the filter oil from the k&n fouling up otherwise good MAF sensors. It's widely agreed, IMO, that this will only happen if you *over*oil the filter when cleaning it. I've had K&N filters in all of my cars (no Ferraris yet), and have never had a problem.

K&N on mine with decatted tubi.
I doubt any noise difference, if any will be from the induction system only.
    Great filter system. Cannot fault.

No noise difference on mine but did feel that the car revs up faster. Better throttle response.

I have used K&N on all my cars and trucks for years and there is an improvement in throttle response in every application. On my 348,the K&N came with the car when purchased,so after a cleaning and re-oiling was all that was needed. After purchasing a F355,I swithed to BMC filters, which are similar to K&N but with better fitting seals around the air box. They are made in Italy and are used in the F1 cars.www.bmcairfilters.com

What is the exact part number from K&N for their air filter? Is it the same air filter from one 348 to the next or do they vary from model (spider to non) etc?

    Please advise.

The 348's large air filter can be upgraded to many of the newer cloth-style filters such as HKS or K&N, etc. K&N has two part numbers that are valid (they simply changed numbering systems) for 348's: 33-2656 (http://ricambiamerica.com/product_info.php?cPath=74&products_id=204&osCsid=773f81b8033cb9b11afad1b392d140c5) and KN348 (http://www.filterpower.co.uk/).

sooooo.......can anyone really "feel" a diff? Its one thing to get a dyno HP increase but another to actually feel it driving.......

I see by some pictures that there are two air filters. Does the F348 require two K&Ns or just one?
