Hi I'm having occasional problems with shifting into 1st gear only when the car has warmed up and only when the car is still,ie when taking off. When the car is cold no problems at all and when the car is warm and when I'm slowing down and in 2nd gear and about to come to a stop but still moving if I downshift into 1st it enters in with no problems at all.So I don't think it is an alignment issue.Just some quick info on the car for those of you that dont know already I've just got the car(308GT4) back from a complete engine rebuild including new clutch and new 2nd gear synchro.I'm thinking possibly a transmission oil issue whether the one thats in it at the moment isn't helping(sorry I don't know what the oil type or brand is) or the level is low.How do I check the level in the transmission and where do I top it up from? Thanks in advance

Is the clutch dragging... easiest way to tell is... does it crunch a bit when going for reverse?

Or, jack the rear wheels off the ground. Select 1st and keep your foot pressed on the clutch... do the wheels turn?

Thanks Phil I'll try that and see.It doesn't really crunch in reverse though. Is it possible for the clutch to drag only when the car is up to temp?Usually dont have any problems for the first 1/2 hour of driving then it intermittently shows up.So could the oil be a problem? How do I check the transmission oil level and where does it get topped up from?

It could also still be adjustment, despite your thoughts so far, they're very sensitive.

Oil is checked at rear of gearbox, below left of diff housing. Can be filled here too, or at the top of transfer housing. Potentially messy shop job.

To check adjustement, engine off, remove gate screws inside car and lift gate out the way (no need to remove knob), select 3rd, rock lever left and right and check for equal free travel of lever each way... if not, adjust main selector under neath at gearbox rod, Then check for fore and aft travel to be equal too.

Still possible individual internal rails out of alignment (esp since recent works done), but main selector most likely.

Also possible some kind of synchro binding problem, best let your box builder fix this I feel.

I just had my gear lube changed in my 308, and have
the same problem, which i never had before. When the
heats up i have trouble geting it into 1st gear. I should
    have left it alone...

Is your gearbox overfilled with too much gear oil??
