a random word of advice - take it or leave it: as far as i can tell, these networking sites have no material revenue model. they have one and only one asset - which is your data. when they run out of money, regardless of what their privacy policy says right now today (it surely says they can change their policy), they will sell your data if/when the **** hits the fan because it's the only asset they have. i know folks who get value from linkedin, but just be cognizant going in about what you're giving them and what they might do with it over time. doody.
I could not agree more on what you have said but this site seems to have many paying customers as high as $200 a month.

MegaBump Is linkedin.com still worth spending time on? I just found it, but I'm not sure if their database of users is growing, or if it's stale because it was a fad.
from my viewpoint, they've just experienced a bit of a renaissance - though this may admittedly be an artifact of a group of old coworkers discovering the site. for what this circumstantial evidence is worth, over the past 2 months i've notived a marked increase in the number of association requests, from both sides of the atlantic.
Same here, it seemed to go stale for a while, but in the last 2-3 months I've received quite a few requests from people I used to work with.
I doubt linkedin.com will be going out of business- there are plenty willing to pay to be an in subscriber. Unlike most of the other network sites linkedin can and does make you money. They will beat facebook as far as going public and the offering will be worth a few Billion.
I now dont like it anymore. I get a lot of spam from recruiters looking to hire. I still think www.asmallworld.net is best Antony
yea not so sure about their IPO. I have a linkedin account and while netting me a few results i cant say i really use it often.
I have a Linkedin account to keep track of business contacts and reconnect with certain. What ticks me off a bit is getting requests from people I've never heard of and I'm not sure why would they want to connect with me anyway.
